You guys aren't looking at this match-up with the mindset of how Kishi writes. I think this fight would be a toss-up. Kakashi knows how to work around certain jutsus/advantages. His experience means a lot, and he's still considered a genius.

I bet he would avoid sand tsunami with a large earth/mud wall.

Gaara is a very dangerous fighter, trust me he has Kakashi in his pocket.
Do you know what it means to fight without caring much about defending? It gives you more space to study your opponent while he is fighting and eating sand. And then Gaara can attack you simultaneously from all angles relentlessly. Not just that even if the opponent gets an opening, he responds with heavy duty defenses and what's more? His attacks are huge and even after they are dodged or blocked, the prepare the ground for what is to come later.

Gaara is an exciting character, I promise you.
