Are Naruto and Sasuke geniuses?

Do you mean genius like innately talented or are you saying he has one of the greatest minds of the series. If you think the latter one then please provide evidence. I'm sure the context sasuke is referred as a genius is one saying he's an exceptionally skilled fighter and if some characters mean intellectual genius I don't know of anything in the series to possibly support that claim.

Portrayal means more than writer build up. Take a basic lit class and you can learn about it. Sasuke has next to 0 genius feats and even does stupid shit like attacking a Byakugan user from behind like they can't see which got him warped or trying to fight Madara head to head after blitzing a SM user which got him stabbed or starting fights while going blind or attacking every national figure head in 1 place which almost got him killed or being Tobito's little pawn boy.

He's nothing compared to Kalashi, Minato, or even Neji

ill take those character statements than your opinion, thank you very much since anytime sasuke was called a genius it was due to him displaying a feat such as being able to use the same speed as weightless lee in a month while it took lee years while also skillfully using lotus which according to gai requires gruesome training even with the sharingan otherwise its impossible to master(without training ie), sasuke displayed it effortlessly. orochimaru witnessing him and then admitting inferiority to sasukes genius at the same age, same orochimaru that was hyped by hiruzen etc

not to mention your examples dont make any sense since no one ever said itachi was stronger than hashirama. hashirama statement was him being a better shinobi which the context obviously wasnt about power. that title given to hiruzen is backed up by the db as well etc.

-he debunked deidaras jutsu with repeated planning, testing out hypothesis while having to deal with the latters fast paced attacks.
