[Discussion] Is Zeref the new Itachi?

We've seen Zeref and then seen Itachi.. Leaving brothers-love aside, aren't the two characters similarly built up?

Yeah especially in the looks department. Zeref looks like Kirito from Sword Art Online.

i see where you got that resemblance but thats it and nothing else....both wanted to be killed at the hands of their brothers...apart from that yes they both love their siblings but nothing else matches...stoniness a bit, nihilism nopes, personality not at all....

Isn't Zeref also very kind? Like he hasn't killed anyone knowingly by his own. Also he is scheming everything just to keep his curse in control. I thik he still wants to save people along with natsu.

Well Itachi was a pretty misunderstood character. Zeref might be the same.
We all know that Zeref "respects" life which is the reason for his curse. Its kinda similar to Itachi's feelings.
Both were prodigies.
I still see a lot of similarities.

Itachi's wasn't a misunderstood character. He intentionally acted that way for a reason; he wanted people to think he was like that. Zeref on the other hand had gotten himself cursed because he was messing around with magic that people consistently warned him for. He is not cursed because he respects life, that's nonsensical. He simply can't control his curse if he's too nice and that really does not resemble Itachi in the least. As said if anything these two are opposites of each other.

That both of them were prodigies is not even worth mentioning as that's really not rare. Same thing for having respect for life. Since when are these two such rare traits?

I'm really not seeing it though. With Itachi, everything he did was for his village and brother. All the "evil" everyone thought he was was fabricated for the village's sake.

With Zeref, he started out acquiring forbidden knowledge for good means ( Natsu) but in the end, as nice, and "respectful" Zeref claims to be, we all know his pursuit in this ultimately corrupted his way of thinking and he got himself cursed doing so. Nothing he does is for the good of the people. The terror people feel for him is real and not fabricated like Itachi.

In other words, Itachi was a genuinely good guy. Zeref was but is now corrupt and dark.
