Not too long ago i remember hearing a few psychologist explain in article, "human nature".

One had made a reference to the famous book Lord of the flies.

Where a group of boys get stranded on an island, secluded from civilization.

Now at first the boys had rules and morals like every other society.

But over time they started to realize there was no punishment for if they do wrong.

So with that many of the boys became corrupt and gave in into their desires since they knew it wouldnt be any repercussions.

What im saying is, are we only as good as the laws requires us to be?

Without societys rule and the invisible barrier which is the law

Would our "good" eventually fade and our extincts by nature take over??

Science seems to think so.

as one said. "man shall do all things for the sake of ones soul"

Its a matter of morals and beliefs. Sure for some, the only thing holding them back from killing someone is the law, but thats fd up. Those who expand their thinking past the laws and towards their own personal morals with regards to human nature wouldn't do that. Although they'd be at a major disadvantage in a society like that.

Yeah, it's all thanks to the law (might be in the form of religion or some moral code tho), but without the law as a restraint, human beings are just plain evil.

Scientists don't classify animals as evil so why would they for humans?

In my opinion, it's in our nature to have some code of right and wrong but it varies. Because we have empathy as well.

Potentially yes. If there's no consequences for doing wrong besides one own mortality(which varies by person) than doing wrong would seem more appealing.

Watch the "Walking Dead", and then you'll see exactly how humans react to a world without rules. lol just kidding, anyways yeah it depends on whether people have morals or not. But in a world without rules or laws, basically people with morals are restricted, therefore at a disadvantage. If you look at it that way, you could say humans are evil by nature simply because we have "free will". "Free will", allows us to make decisions simply because ......."well why not" and that is why we have rules and laws, to keep us from making "evil decisions" right?

I just know there are good and bad side, it depends on the person which has more percentage of it. Also, there are many factors that can affect those percentages.

It is far easier to be hateful and "evil" to others, hence why people mistake it with being human nature. Humans are selfish by nature, which is normal, all organisms live on Earth and survive under the idea that they should preserve and prioritise themselves above all else, which often leads to acts that do not benefit others. But we're capable of growing out of that to an extent.

no.

humans are fundamentally neutral. whether they're "evil" or "good" is a product of their environment and the true definition on what "good" or "evil" is to that individual varies (smaller scale stuff; not larger scale such as murder). the law doesn't mold someone's entire position and personality. their situation (nature vs nurture, home-life, parenting, core personality, socialization, etc) plays a bigger role on the psychology of the individual than the law

Most yes but all? No. There are instances when even though it would be of some gain to you to do something evil you wouldn't do it (even in total abscence of consequences). It's highly dependant on whether your moral code is built on fear from doing evil or joy from doing good.

You don't "need" to be evil, people can be good for no reason.
But it's an interesting concept I don't know if people would go nuts if they could get away with it I'm sure some would. Like the movie the purge.

A sense of law can derive from norms too I think, I read that online don't know if it's true, but basically what is against a social standard is illegal so even without society people might deem some things as wrong and some things as good and people who do bad gets punished.

As long as an accepted framework of "right and wrong" exists and is internalized by most people, instincts would not take over.

Consequences of actions are unavoidable, and they are necessary to keep humans' behavior in check. For most people, feeling guilty is enough of a consequence to prevent them from violating their own sense of right and wrong.

Well , most people are like that just put them in where there's no laws and not been socially shunned, only ones with high moral fiber will stand true to their own morals .

Well The Lord of the Flies could be a not so improbable scenario without a constant moral framework to sustain us

I like to think I wouldn't let go of my morals in such a situation, but if the world around me goes aspesh*t, I can't guarantee that I won't follow. Thank god though that religion exists. That helps keep a lot of people in place, following certain morals, form a society, all that.
