Dosu Kinuta vs. Chōji Akimichi
Yoroi Akado vs. Misumi Tsurugi (Cause no one cares)
Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha (Both are restricted in their own way)
Ino Yamanaka vs. Kin Tsuchi (Mind Transfer vs Genjutsu)
Shikamaru Nara vs. Zaku Abumi (Could Shikamaru outsmart someone with this kind of firepower?)
Neji Hyuga vs. Gaara (Say if Neji had the same moveset as his Final Round self for the sake of a discussion, making it an ultimate defense vs ultimate defense scenario)
Hinata Hyuga vs Sakura Haruno (Girl fight)
Rock Lee vs Kankuro (Don't forget that Lee is restricted by his weights and has a range disadvantage...)
Dosu Kinuta vs Temari (Wind vs Sound. Who shall win?)
Kiba Inuzuka vs. Choji Akimichi (Fodder Fight, anyone?)
Tenten vs. Shino Aburame (Both fairly talented, but essentially leftovers...)
Yoroi - contact based Hax beats stretchiness. Yes, i remember who they where.
Naruto wins. Sasuke at the time couldn't use his sharingan without the curse mark killing him, at which point he would likely be disqualified for being too enthusiastic. Significantly bigger restriction than naruto not being allowed to use kyuubi chakra.
Ino wins. Kin is dumb, and more importantly stands still in her fighting style.
Shikamaru wins because he is Shikamaru, while Zaku was down a few arms. Shikamaru gets him with shadow possesion immediately.
Gaara wins. Nothing neji has can get through the sand shield, while neji has to constantly stay alert to block gaara.
Hinata wins. At the time, sakuras only trick was being slightly smarter than average, and that doesnt mean much when your internal organs are being put through a blender.
Dosu. Sound cannot be displaced by wind.
Kiba wins. He was pretty much the strongest person beside lee to lose in the preliminarys. He had naruto almost beaten before naruto... defeated him with superior skill.
Shino curbstomps tenten. Her scrolls are eaten by bugs.
I'd say these are pretty simple to call. Part 1 kept it quite easy to read power levels back when Kishi cared.
I don't care who wins out of Naruto and Sasuke at this point in the series, it'd just be a taijutsu battle so...Sasuke?
Ino lacks any offensive jutsu to get across the stage with but luckily Kin always stays rooted to the spot. Would be interesting though.
Not sure who wins Zaku VS Shikamaru. Gonna give it to Zaku just because Shika struggled earlier in the forest when defending Sakura and whilst he could definitely make a strategy for someone he's encountered- Zaku was one of the stronger people in this exam and I feel Shika would just surrender out of 'jesus that's gonna hurt I cba' than anything else.
Gaara knocks some humility into Neji the same way he did his teammate. Chakra points won't do much to Gaara when his sand protects him naturally, sand armour and the speed needed to combat him means he'll get less hits on him than Lee, even if he is more talented and 'a genius'. Bad matchup
Hinata takes this. Hopefully she can get riled up enough to show what she was showing VS Neji.
Just because of Kankuro and Temari's shock against Lee? I have to give it to him. Lee was above everyone else really when it came to early power-ups and abilities.
Temari's fan blows away much stronger sound jutsu techniques later on in the series, effortlessly too. If she can remain unaffected by Gengo then Temari has no problem. This ends in another OHKO.
Kiba Inuzuka. Tough one, they're not fodders like you claim but Kiba has a bit more going on whilst Chouji will remain quite slow and is a one trick pony at this point in the series. Since he's unlikely to have confidence in himself or use a suicide tech like VS Jirobo- Kiba takes it comfortably.
Both talented sure but Shino will beat Tenten. He's just in the tier above her as showcased when he followed and defeated Kankuro, simple as that.
Naruto Uzumaki vs Sasuke Uchiha
I think Sasuke was more ****ed up than Naruto at this point. The curse seal was really taking its toll on him and he only had enough energy for Shishi Renden. Naruto would have won here due to stamina and circumstances.
Ino Yaminaka vs Kin Tsuchi
Kin takes it here. In order for Mind Transfer to work, the user needs some medium (the hair) if I remember correctly. Kin's genjutsu confuses Ino and she cannot get her win condition, thus loses.
Shikamaru Nara vs Zaku Abumi
This is hard. I really want to say Shikamaru but I will give it to Zaku. Shino did outsmart him and checkmate him, but he had the ability to do so. That is not to say that Shikamaru can't find a way to win - just that I don't see him being able to with Zaku blowing him away.
Neji Hyuuga vs Gaara
This is a tough one. I'm going to assume we're restricting Shukaku. Neji's Kaiten would be able to repel Sand Coffin, in my opinion, but can he get around the Shield of Sand? He is fast but he's not of Lee's speed. No doubt Gentle Fist and Eight Trigrams 64 Palms would penetrate the Armour of Sand but not the shield. Stalemate haha. Depends on how long either ninja can last.
Hinata Hyuuga vs Sakura Haruno
Now the first thing that comes to mind is Gentle Fist blitz gg but we have to remember that Hinata at this point is very timid and has little motivation to fight. Sakura, on the other hand, is very determined. Also, Sakura - who knows about Gentle Fist after Kakashi describes it - will know to stand away. Hinata does not have Kaiten so could fall prey to Sakura's weaponry tricks. I give it to Sakura.
Rock Lee vs Kankuro
Lee takes off his weights and wins the fight quickly. Not much else to say here. He takes them off after realising Kankuro's fighting style.
Dosu Kinuta vs Temari
Temari takes this one. Temari is capable enough to keep her distance and attack from range (I mean come on; it's her strategy). Once she tries Dosu do something sneaky she blows him away. If she has the summoning here then it's gg no two ways.
Kiba Inuzuka vs Chouji Akimichi
Kiba takes this. Chouji doesn't have Naruto's stamina to take hit after hit. Also, Chouji would not be able to land a hit on Kiba.
Ten Ten vs Shino Aburame
This is Shino's game. He has a psuedo-shield in his Bug Wall and can feint with Bug Clones. Ten Ten has no defense against such offence and falls prey to Shino's bugs.
Personally, I could see Hinata getting outsmarted by PT1 Sakura, a simple substitution is all that is required to dodge a gentle fist and Sakura was able to outsmart three ninja much more intelligent than Hinata. 50/50 at most though.
Lmao...what is a Misumi Tsurugi xD Now that I think about it, I have no recollection of Kankuro fighting in the prelims xD

If Sakura fought hinata who knows how it would go , sakura chakra control was flawless and she was never adapt in using substitution in conjunctions it's the body flicker , hinata lacks the rotation to avoid such an assault . Also Sakura didn't want to hurt ino so she held back a or as the manga put it , used kid gloves. Would she do the same with hinata, we really don't know. I think kin would've been a better match up for Sakura, because he know she wouldn't hold back.
People are under estimating Sakuras abilities , she could even walk on the ceiling and attack from there if she wanted to , and we know her anyltyical abilities is superior to sasuke two tomoe sharri!gan > hinata's Byakugan. Remember she caught Naruto with her kunai, saved Naruto from being chopped by zabuza, caught sasuke from rock lees attacks , avoided the sound nin 3 at once, who's speed was superior to hinata's . Not to mention she can enhance her speed

Gaara's gourd sand is infused with a large amount of his Chakra which is the reason its so fast/strong , Jyuken destroying that Chakra should heavily slower and weaken it unknown to Gaara. Shunshin should give neji the extra movemeent speed required to get up close without problems seeing that his movement speed is above weighted Lee's and his Body speed should be somewhere above Weightless Lee , only with much faster attacking speed and higher physical and mental reaction timing and precision , while having much slower running/movement speed by comparison
