Do you know a safe plugin for tagging that will work properly and not mess up just like Quote button? And yes you will probably still see only latest 5 tags because all this data also means DB entries taking space and what not.
Also what if it doesn't work properly or isn't feasible with quote option? Is it ok to remove the plugin for Quote for tag option?
Are the forums you saw using this option active enough- like more that 50 users? Because that's the point when you start noticing issues with these plugins - higher the number etc?
I'm not saying it's not possible to add - only Zise and V know and can implement it, so wait for their reply. But if it was suggested and wasn't implemented 70% times it's one of the reasons. Rest is V being too busy.

Idk if there's a plugin, it would likely require custom development and integration with the notification system, but at least it would work 100% unlike the quote notification plugin. I'd say it would probably need a new database and it to be connected in with all of the other stuff.
If it runs on SQL, an SQL Database can handle millions of entries. If you do a google search on this, some people have over 800 million database entries with no issues.

Assuming it is such, entries wouldn't be much more than a user id value, the user id of the person that is tagging you a timestamp and a primary automatic increment id. I wouldn't imagine much more would be needed, perhaps thread title/section, etc.
For such small amounts per entry, I doubt it would pose any issue, still, a limit of reading 5 for each person is perfectly sufficient.
