I believe they came down after the clan wars we're done because no one mention any thing about them in historical documents with the power of the Byakugan and that is why uch and senju were considered the strongest because the hyuga have not arrived yet

What I believe was one of the Sage Sons came down and wanted to start his own Clan which makes more sense since he will be the only person will I'm not trying to jump Between Worlds and have the knowledge and skill to do so and since he wanted to make your own Clan he changed the name

They were around during the ninja clan wars. Madara and Hashirama mentioned they were going to join the Uchiha and Senju clans when they first founded Kanoha.

My best guess is that (like Hagoromo) Hamura got with some girl before the time he and his brother fought Kaguya. Probably pulled a Sasuke and told her he had to leave to save the world. Unknowingly knocked her up, helped defeat his mother, then took off to the moon.

The result was the first Hyuga child. Complete guess work here though. I really have no idea
