I think it's just more to do with the Kyubi knowing about Sasuke's deep feelings for Naruto. Kyubi can probably tell Sasuke still cares for Naruto deep down and if he ends up taking his life, he'll end up regretting. Similar to how Cain felt towards Abel after he took his life, so it's a good parallel. :yeah:

He already noted the similarities between Sasuke and Madara and was aware that he'd soon be under the control of an Uchiha teen once Sasuke wiped out Naruto.

I think the Kyuubi didn't mean if he actually killed Naruto. He meant if he tried and came close to killing Naruto he'd take over Naruto and then kill Sasuke. I also think at the time Kishimoto thought that bijuus die with jins. It's a stretch but that is how I interpreted it. The friend explanation is the most likely.
