Looks more like a purple to me but blue and purple are very close depending on the shade so I'm not too worried about that. As to why it wasn't seen it can all come down to the animator's preference, I'm guessing the animator responsible for that scene liked to add color to black. Most add purple/blue to black as a contrast
Also it kind of was in the anime as well, granted it's with Susano'o which may explain the purple.
