I don't think Orochimaru was ever truly evil I would say he was more mad then anything and just didn't value human life or anything that got in the way of his twisted science.

No not necessarily, one of my old professors introduce the term Existential nihilism & Moral Moral nihilism to me. It just means that a person sees no significance in life but doesn't harbor depravity.
