I think the trees died as part of Mom's ability. She takes souls and transplants them. They only have a set amount of life available. Maybe fear causes the implanted spirits to "flee" or be used up faster than real time. Which goes back to when she attacked her son and they kept telling him to not be afraid, because fear affects the souls she puts into objects.

THIS! I've been theorizing something similar. I think this will play a vital role in the story. I think fear also plays a big role in counteracting Linlin's abilities. When and if the time comes for Luffy to fight her, the only way it makes sense to me for Luffy to win is to exploit the loophole in this theory. Since Luffy will NOT be afraid of her, perhaps her powers will have less of or even no effect on him. Today's chapter basically confirmed that fear causes the souls affected by Big Mam to become more easily detached, but we will have to wait and see if Oda elaborates on it more.

I'm not disagreeing they're proportionate to the story, I just think it's funny how not that long ago(before Jack) very few people realistically expected to see a bounty over 1 bil let alone a handful.

I meant burning like that as Ace's vivre card.I'm implying if that's what OP meant with burning up(since Ace had Mera Mera) or he meant in general either way I know it's shrinking if the users life force is weaker or stronger.

When I posted about the vivre card on page 1, I knew about the life force deal. I was referencing to everybody in the surrounding area being able to sense that the vivre card belongs to Big Mom, that is something we haven't seen before.

It's not like when Luffy pulled out Ace's card that someone asked, hey is Ace here ?

Cracker seems like the real deal I did not expect his bounty to be that high. We all know luffy is not going to fight him for long Zoro needs to get his ass in here and take cracker on he seems like the guy who is going to give Zoro a real challenge good chapter I rate it a 4/5.

Doesn't cracker's effect only happen on blunt damage? He said you break it a new one forms but what if it's cut does it still double? How it all works hasn't been explained yet.

The Yonkou are supposed to keep balance with the WG and the Shichibukai. That's why they didn't want to screw with Whitebeard. It's plausible at least that the Yonkou wouldn't need bounties. It's not like seeing a bunch of 9's after Kaido's name will make him any more intimidating.
