I don't think Madara was taking Hashirama seriously because Hashirama left from going head on with Madara who was holding back to being pinned with Chakra rods. It doesnt have anything to do with him being an Edo either because even though he wasn't at full power he still had all his techniques avaliable and got pinned like a doll. Kishimoto gave Madara Edo perks to beat Hashirama not to beat Naruto because he would in any state, hence why he showed that Alive Madara almost being as strong as Hashirama just before he had Madara pin him up as an Edo.

Madara wasn't at full power Hashirama expressed how once madara immediately became alive hashi said madara had gained his full powers...Edo > Edo Hashirama for sure...

It's a fact madara was just fighting hashi to pass time because obito became jin so he even said he was bidding his time for naruto and the team.to weaken Juubito so he didn't have to...

Also madara clearly held back he didn't use 25 mokuton susano's he didn't even use any wood release on Hashirama to counter his and he still tied with Hashirama both were incapacitated...Madara was pinned by the mokuton seals and Hashirama was impaled by multiple black rods

Edo Madara was stated to be hyped up with modifications, I believe this is stated when he first appears.

Kabuto juiced Madara's edo! Madara was old when he died but Kabuto brought him back in his prime.. Madara's edo was closer to his alive power than the other edo's.

& don't forget that Hashirama had clones in battle while his original edo faced Madara. He shorten his power even more with kagebuushin.
It was Madara's time to shine... Hashirama lost his.

Edo Madara had Rinnegan + Hashi's DNA + Mokuton and went against a Hashi who wasn't even at full power nor did he summon SS.
