In what way are we saying

replace Madara in his era and be just as or even more effective.

Because you can think of it in different ways, replacing him as a Uchiha in general or replacing him as a fighter. Of course, replacing him as an Uchiha would obviously fall on Sasuke because he's the only Uchiha with fighting capabilities(Sarada does not). If we were to replace him as a fighter we could easily pick between Sasuke and Naruto since they drew in their fight.

Sasuke never has been, and never will be on Madaras level. It actually took both Naruto and Sasuke to battle him and even after that he would have destroyed them if it hadnt been for Plot and the biggest asspull the series had ever seen.

EDIT: And lets not forget we did not see Madara use hardly any techs from his arsenal. Rinnegan. Juubi Eye. He had moves for decades and years that could have nerfed them all. Plot protected everyone.

You mean Itachi is the only one who could replace Madara, just imagine if Itachi got EMS, Rinengan, Perfect Susanoo with Totsuka and Yata, Rikiduo chakra to enhance his own power, making his Tsukuyomi even stronger than it was and probably increase his casting range, the possibility are endless.. Just imagine Madara's Perfect Susanoo, now imagine Itachi's PS to be that size with Totsuka and Yata, and EMS so his eyes won't strain. Itachi would no longer just be a god, he'd be a step above Zeus lol

I like his backstory and all but the way he progressed as a character made him be a whimpy whiny emo kid that gets babied by his older brother.

like a kid learning how to ride a bike and he thinks hes all fly and all but in reality, he has Itachi holding on to his bike so he wont fall over.
