Like how about, back in ancient times, long before the Shinju appeared on Earth, giant demons known as the Tengu were the kings of the land. Even before humans stood on 2 feet, or even before the Earth was fully formed, Tengu Demons used the fiery landscape of primal Earth as a battlefield to satisfy their infinite hunger for battle.
Millions of years past, and their conflict never ceased, legendary warriors were born and slain as life on Earth developed around them. As life grew more complex, more magical demons and creatures began to claim Earth as their home, and as humanity obtained self awareness they acknowledged the Tengu as gods and worshipped them and their war mongering code.
The Tengu taught humans the ways of war, and led by their Tengu gods a Great War was fought between armies of humans and Tengu together.
After many years of bloodshed, the last of the Tengu had fallen, and the remnants of humanity fearing extinction entered a period of peace and spread across the lands to start families.
But the lakes of blood formed from the war soaked the land, and a seed from outer space crash landed onto the war torn landscape, being nourished by the blood and grew into what became known as the God tree.
Along with the blood of the fallen, the tree had also absorbed the spirits of the Tengu and their various supernatural powers they once used to wage war. The future inheritors of the tree's energy would eventually learn to manifest these powers through their eyes, as well as spiritual chakra avatars of the Tengu themselves.
