The Killing Joke and Batgirl's implied rape / *** with her father figure Batman is disgusting and completely missing the point imo. They act like the fact that she got raped is the most powerful and rewarding thing about the character.

Depends on which version they use. She's been smacked around by the Joker a lot, but the newer versions of her character have her standing on her own and being more independent.

The Killing Joke does her a severe disservice by the sounds of it. Articles and film critics/DC fans aren't impressed. It's a storyline and treatment of a character that even the OG writer has disowned.

To be honest I liked it. It helped with her character and I felt like she progressed in the story.

By creating near-incest in the Bat family and making The Joker and Batman both feel incredibly predatory? Her rape and attack by Joker now comes across like a punishment for being sexual...which is an unexpected and gross turn of events.

DC animation doesn't understand that having edgy things happen to you doesn't make you a more developed character. Original writer hates the storyline too.
