I mean out of everyone in the new generation he is the most pathetic. He has a pretty bad ass mom in Ino and fairly skilled father in Sai and yet he seems so meek and scared the whole time. Its like his mother was so bossy and terrifying to him as a kid that he is simply terrified of everything and can't do anything on his own. Maybe he will show more later for for now every time I see him he looks scared and uncertain.

Exactly. Let me list a few from Naruto's generation hat did more than her by herself:

Neji sacrificed himself for Naruto, and...

HInata snapped him out of it when he refused to fight afterwards.

Sakura resurected Naruto and was the reason they solved the White Zetsu murder case.

Shikamaru led the alliance after his father's death. (Arguable)

Choji took on the Gedo Mazo alongside his father, saving his whole division from what would probably be certain death.

Lee kicked Madara clean in half and severed his link to the Juubi and later helped Gai hold back Juubiadara.

Kankuro led the surprise attack division and guaranteed victory over the enemy in the war's first battle. Plus, he took out Sasori.

And I don't even have to explain Gaara's importance.
