Nope. None of that. Shukaku was introduced as a desert monster. But, Jiraiya had a talk with Kakashi about the akatsuki. That's the only moment in pat 1 where i think it was said something about the 9 bijuus

Agreed. They hit the DBZ factor. Cranking up the power level of friend/foe in every story arc too far too many times until the final power levels of the protagonists & antagonists were just too high.

Kindah like how in DBZ Frieza was supposed to be the STRONGEST in the universe & SS Goku barely managed to defeat him (by making him cut himself in half) and even that didn't work. Then one android alone trumped Frieza, Semi-perfect Cell trumped an android, post HBTC Vegeta trumped semi-perfect cell & Perfect Cell did the same to Vegeta.

How strong is Cell compared to someone of such an ENORMOUS power level like Frieza? Fodderizes him. Way too big a change. They did the same in Naruto from the beginning to end of part 2.
