I really like how this filler arc portrays gamamaru. He is basically the light version of black zetsu. Pulling strings without fighting to have Kaguya's sealed away.

He's a lot more epic than that old toad we got in the manga.

Not so much this episode, more this arc. It's still not a lot, but he told them to go to the tree, taught the original sage sage mode, and helped save hamura.

He did more in the anime than zetsu did in the whole manga (up until he stabbed godara)

Yes, If the original author didn't create it alot of fans emit it from the official timeline because the author may contradict something that an outside 'force' interjected.

To me non canon means straight up non canon, like based in an alternate universe, a movie, fan made or not approved by the original author, and this is none of those but whatever. I'm not gonna try to convince anyone. I'm not a big Naruto fan anyway, i just wanted to know why people think this is not canon.

By "did" do you mean that we saw? Because Black Zetsu is the entire reason nearly every event in the entirety of the manga happened...

We just didn't see him do it.
