Alright, time to see one of the three villainous Kage in action. I tried to make him as menacing as possible without screwing with some of these preexisting power levels, so hopefully these first couple match-ups play out in a believable wayxd Anyways, enjoy:)

Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:

Chapter 102: Evacuate

As Unagi set his cap down on the rock he had been sitting on moments ago, the men behind him took this time to don the special goggles which had been passed out to them.

Unagi: Do they work?

????: Uh, everything’s…green. I can see shapes, though.

Unagi: (He rolled his eyes and stood in front of the shinobi.) What about the emblem on my headband? Can you make it out?

????: Ummm…no.

Unagi: Goddamn it. Alright, just watch yourselves while you’re out there. I don’t need anyone committing cannibalism, if you know what I mean. (Shit, some invention…I’m gonna have a pretty unpleasant talk with HIM once this battle’s over.)

With this minor mishap past them, the small unit departed for the island and quickly scattered, silently stalking and killing every survivor of Deba’s massacre that they found. The mist concealed their movements better than it had before, as testament to Unagi’s immense chakra supply and excellent control over it. Those with sharp senses quickly took notice of this, as well, including Manako.

Manako: This mist is a lot thicker than before. …The Kage…

Metal: (He turned to him in shock.) The Mizukage is here?

Manako: I don’t know yet. You two should get out of here, though. If you see anyone else on the way, tell them to pull back, too.

Miyuki: (She looked up at him in worry.) What about you?

Manako: I’ve still got my Sharingan and my reflexes, so I can still fight back. Everyone who can’t see past it, though, needs to leave now.

Neither was quick to leave Manako to fend for himself, but eventually the two gave in and took off, the smell of sal****er leading them to the shoreline. No sooner after they left was Manako engaged by one of the scouring hunter-nin. His superior swordplay made him an easy opponent but, noting his viciousness as he fought and remembering Metal’s words, he cut him down before moving along, showing far less remorse than he did after slaying Daragetsu. Many Union shinobi found less success against the silent stalkers and were mercilessly cut down, Rounin nearly becoming one of them before being saved by the much more adept Mei.

Rounin: Thank you, Lady Mizukage. …Is it me or has the mist grown thicker?

Mei: I’ve noticed it, too. …It has to be Unagi.

Rounin: (His surprise quickly passes and he looks at her in concern.) What will you do?

Mei: It might be best for us to begin pulling back. Unagi’s personal forces are his best by far, and this mist will only cost us more shinobi than we can still afford to lose.

Rounin: …I asked what will you do.

The tone in his voice and the look in his eyes let her know that he was onto her, so with a sigh and a flex of her shoulders, she explained her intentions.

Mei: The mist has been a backbone of my shinobi experience for decades. I’m one of the most equipped shinobi here to continue fighting now, so I can at least stall and allow more of our forces to escape the island.

Rounin: (He stared at her in admiration for a moment before smiling.) Just look out for yourself, Lady Mizukage. …I’ve heard tales of how you dislike hearing this, but you’re not as young as you once were.

It was a fact she had long accepted since the end of the previous war, how she tried and tried again to find a partner in the last forty years and failed time after time. It amused her for a brief second, but her pride quickly returned and she turned to face him with that obviously fake smile.

Mei: You’re right. I don’t like hearing that. And if you say it again, I’ll kill you.

The polite front she put on as she said it was enough to leave Rounin spooked as she disappeared into the mist, but he smiled nonetheless and proceeded to hold up a long horn as he took to the water yet again. The sound it produced echoed across the island, garnering the attention of every shinobi and samurai still in action, including Airon’s squadron.

Niyo: That’s General Rounin. He’s calling for a retreat.

????: Now? But what about the captain?

Niyo: (He rubbed his eyes in irritation.) Who knows? The general’s orders have priority over his, though, so we need to clear out with or without him. …Besides, it’s not like Airon can’t take care of himself.

It was a tough decision to make – for most, at least – but one that quickly proved unanimous before they evacuated, along with the rest of the Union forces. However, this signal was by no means inaudible to their enemy. Unagi finished cutting down a small group of helpless samurai as the sound rang in his own ears, giving him a sharp-toothed grin as he looked in the direction it came from.

Unagi: Aw, don’t break up the party just after I arrived, General.

His grin was suddenly replaced by a gaping mouth, a response to the pain now running down his back. Behind him stood Manako, blood dripping from the tip of his sword.

Manako: What? You’re leaving so soon, Mizukage?

Manako’s red eyes grew wide with shock as Unagi stood back up, the pain in his back now gone, along with the massive fissure Manako had just placed there. He turned back around with a large scowl, his sword raised high over his head.

Unagi: Don’t get cocky with me, kid. I’m Mizukage for a reason!

Manako: (He dropped to one knee and held up both hands as Unagi’s sword collided with his own.) Yeah. Because you had the Sixth killed.

Unagi: (He rolled his eyes.) Again with these baseless accusations. I’m just gonna have to drill that point straight into your brain now, ain’t I?

His body began growing and his sword arm swelled, to the point where Manako found himself – quite literally – standing in the Mizukage’s shadow. Rarely one to back down from a challenge, Manako stood his ground, but still took the time to put his sword away and dodge his enemy’s swings as he reacquired Kubikiribōchō, knowing the infamous blade stood a better chance of remaining intact against Unagi’s than his own. This quickly proved incorrect.

Manako: Shit!

He chucked the remnants of the sword out of spite, forgetting in that moment that he had methods for increasing its power to match Unagi’s. He cursed himself as he maneuvered to dodge his next swing, quickly redeeming himself by grabbing the nearby Hiramekarei. With a single wave of its twin handles, the aura surrounding the sword remade itself into the shape of a hammer, pouring enough chakra into it so that it cancelled out Unagi’s sword when they collided. This standoff suddenly became a contest of strength, one which, in his opponent’s current state, Manako quickly realized he would eventually lose. In response, he activated his Mangekyō Sharingan and stared up into his eyes, every intention in his mind of taking him out then and there. Unagi was more privy to his abilities than others who he had fought, though, and his actions only brought a grin to his face.

Unagi: That’s pretty bright of you, Manako Uchiha. Go ahead, use your black flames and take my life. End this side of the fighting right here and now…or will you?

Not even twenty minutes earlier, a dare like that would’ve had the opposite effect on Manako’s stance, but with blood already on his hands, his remarks brought not even the slightest twitch to his eye. Unagi continued to stall.

Unagi: Yeah, I know. Kill their leader, they can always find someone else to call for a surrender on their behalf…but do you really think that’s gonna rebuild our bonds as strong as they were before the war started? All that does is show that you’ll use that superior military strength Otori was talking about to get your way. You don’t give a shit who you kill or how many you kill, as long as this war ends with your demands being met instead of ours. …You kill me, you show everyone just how right Otori was.

He kept his front for an impressive span of time, to the point where he noticed the smallest drop of sweat running down Unagi’s cheek. Ultimately, though, Manako deactivated his Mangekyō Sharingan. He knew deep down that this would prove a big mistake, but his point was too well founded to disregard.

Manako: (You’re a freakin’ coward, you know that?)

Unagi: (He simply grinned in response.) (On some level, sure…)

Before Manako was even privy to his ploy, he found himself on the ground, gasping for breath several feet away. Before he could even stand again, Unagi had already finished forming hand signs.

Unagi: (…but it did buy me the chance to do this.)

Manako quickly reactivated his Mangekyō Sharingan and unleashed Susanoo as a sea of acid erupted from Unagi’s lips. To his surprise, though, its presence was rendered unnecessary by the sudden appearance of a wall of glowing magma which absorbed the acid in its entirety. He turned around to catch a glimpse of his savior, finding it to be none other than the Fifth Mizukage herself.

Mei: Sorry, hon, but even Susanoo wouldn’t have held up against that attack…and I simply couldn’t allow him to scar a face that handsome.

She gave him a wink which her advanced age only made creepier, but he met it with a smirk nonetheless. She walked forward and planted her feet directly between him and Unagi, meeting

Unagi: Fine then. I’ll have an easier time maiming you, anyways.

Mei: (She shot him a glare before turning to Manako.) You should get going. There’s a bunch of other lowlifes running around the island right now who need dealing with. You’d best take care of that.

Manako: (His eyes filled with worry, but it quickly passed and he answered with a nod.) Got it. …Just stay alive until I get the chance to thank you.

She returned his smile as he disappeared through the fog and she turned back to her successor. She quickly found herself on the ground, having been forced into a dive to evade another wave of acid.

Mei: Attacking when your enemy’s not engaged in the fight!? Have you really sunk that low!?

Unagi: Is there any other way to attack them!?

She returned to her feet and began running as he sprayed more acid in her direction, her advanced age rendering her much slower than she had been in her prime, and thus more open to a successful hit. Realizing this, she formed a multitude of hand signs as she ran, her extensive background in fighting in mist allowing her to keep Unagi in her sights.

Mei: Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!

Water burst forth from the sand in the shape of a massive dragon and soared through the fog over to Unagi – or at least where Mei expected him to be. The acknowledgement of this possibility helped her avoid complete shock when he suddenly reappeared behind her, while also helping her to counter it if the chance arose. Sure enough, as he swung his sword, Unagi found much greater surprise in the reality that he was cutting through a water clone, while the real Fifth Mizukage emerged a few feet away with her hands clasped against the ground. Instantly, a large chunk of earth rose up from the sand and encased the two of them, at which point she formed yet another hand sign.

Mei: Vapor Style: Solid Fog!

While the current of air that blew from her mouth was difficult to see, its effect on the temperature and toxicity of the air in their enclosed space quickly became far more difficult to ignore.

Mei: Try to hold your breath, hon. We want you singed, not boiled.

A few seconds passed where Unagi gave no response to her taunting, during which her smile slowly but surely disappeared. At first, she blamed it on her own unwillingness to kill him outright, then she remembered why he was so feared amongst the hunter-nin community – he could not only withstand the toxicity in the air, but control it.

Mei: Again with these people forgetting why I’m the Seventh Mizukage. Even you, Fifth.

Her jutsu now completely neutralized, Mei watched in shock as he raised his sword over his head, ducking as he swung it around and cut her dome in half. She leapt away at the first possible moment, noting the increased thickness of the mist as she dodged his sword a second time. He made a few more swings at her before leaping away and vanishing in the fog, leaving her standing there alone, consumed with newfound fear for her enemy. The next few seconds passed with no sound whatsoever, then she let out a deafening scream and fell to the ground in pain. Behind her stood Unagi, wiping away the trickle of acid on his chin that didn’t quite make it onto her back.

Unagi: That was a warning. As another Mizukage, I still respect you enough to let you walk away, but if you get up again, it better be to do just that. …If I see your face, I AM gonna spit in it.

His odd choice of words caused him to chuckle in spite of himself, the sight of Mei’s helpless state soon elevating it to a fit of wild laughter. Mei simply laid in the sand all the while, gritting her teeth to relieve the pain. In her mind, she struggled to think of a new course of action, wondering if she even had one to choose from at this point.

Mei: (It’s no good. He’s too fast. …Come on, what do I do?)

Has Mei’s age finally caught up to her!!?

Great stuff, as usual. Loved the fight. I don't understand why Manako listened to Unagi's garbage, though. The enemy has no compunction about killing them, walking away when he could have killed him was a mistake which will probably come back to bite him. Poor Mei, it sucks getting old. Hopefully, she has another trick up her sleeve.

Wonderful chapter, I like the fight too, short and interesting. Not all fights have to be finished, in fact i like uncompleted fights bcos one, a character doesnt hv to die and i will still expect more jutsus up the shinobis sleeve later on. U hv shown unagi's arsenal albeit some of them. Hahaha Unagi is really the new Troll Kage! He's jutsus are quiet similar to that of Mei.

Ah! Poor old Mei. I always tot she cud do better in a fight with her 3 elements and 2 KKGs but she now shes even old and HusbandLess! Lmao. Though i hv a feeling she will not give up but not necessarily immediately mayb after she saw her mistake of letting Unagi be as manako too may regret later.

Yeah, I wish I'd known before that her Lava Release put of a lot of its own emphasis on acidity. xd

Well, we'll have to find out;) lol
