There isn't anything to understand. The Byakugan allows one to see chakra, so that's what Kaguya saw.

The seals contain a massive amount of Hagoromo's Six Paths Yin & Yang chakra, each one being stated to be one half of the power that Hagoromo gave to Naruto & Sasuke.
