This is a high School kid, I don't care what whether she is an asset or not, if ppl are going to have any faith in a legal system then it has to at least appear fair. Anyone that would cast aside whole families yet would cater to a girl simply because she may be an asset in the future because she has good grades is an azz and should be removed from power.
I said "thievery as a whole", and some people do show leniency to people who steal very low value items. You can't seriously now be comparing rape to being an illegal immigrant. How is what I said anti-liberal. I believe that people are born with equal value, but some people can make themselves more valuable than others later on in life. For example, people like Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, etc. are clearly more valuable than your average Joe since they became very prominent scientists that helped humanity.
You speak of extremes but you are comparing a girl with a 4.5 GPA to Steven Hawkins and Albert Einstein, ppl that have had their entire lives to prove their worth.

You keep using false equivalency. Rape is a much more serious crime than being an illegal immigrant, so the persons intelligence isn't enough to lower their punishment. And rapists are directly harming someone while she isn't harming anyone. I said that I believe that people are born equal, but people can become more valuable than others through hard work and talent. I don't think that's anti-liberal and I'm pretty sure most people would agree that some people are more valuable than others because of their accomplishments.
