[Suggestion] Make the Art competition anonymous.

When someone asks me what I think the best part about me is, I say my brain but my ability to gain muscle comes very close to it.My brain is very good so after using it I realized something so important.

I think we should make the Art contest anonymous just like the other contests. There are 2 VERY important reasons that I think you are really going to get shocked by when you read.


1. There will always be a bias and let me tell you, If one of my good friends enters the contest, I think that I will vote for them because the,the loyalty is very important to me.It's so important.

2. The art needs to get judged fairly. Frankly I think this reason will shock you because I'm very smart and I say smart things. When someone enters the competition early and their art piece is constantly up "there" to be seen again and again by the same person he/she gets desensitized to it and it looses the "wow". Ill give you an example

Let's say 1 art piece is a 9 out of 10 and the other is 7.853423513353456 ( bet you didn't read the whole number) and the 9/10 gets put up straight away but no one sees the 7.853423513353456 until the it's time to vote. I would say that the one that no one sees until voting would be considered better than the one that is constantly seen because the voters will get use to the greatness of the 9/10 and will think it's good but not as good as they thought at the start.

So I think if the entries are anonymous It will make it more fair.

While it would certainly be better, there is a problem because then all entries would have to be held secret from the forum until that point or would have to be made specifically for the contest which is something very few people actually do.

Many entries are submitted in the Art Hall before the contest so even if we were to eliminate names, people would still know who's behind it. Also, some members here have their pretty recognizable style which is again going to get them noticed. Also, if someone wants to vote for one person specifically regardless of the quality of their art, they can simply ask the person which entry is their so they know which one to vote for.

The suggestion would ultimatively accomplish too little at the price of changing the voting and submissions model.

But there is a lot of art that is submitted and there needs to be credibility. They have to write who it's by because it's their art.
It's not quite fair for only the winner/s to get their name displayed. Everyone who made art in the competition deserves/has the right to their name being displayed by it.

And you might say "Well just post that after the contest with the winners or something."
That's too much work, especially with the amount of submissions. It's easier the way it is now, and there's really no problem with it. Yes their is biased. There always will be. I guess you just gotta have faith that someone will vote for who is actually good.

I don't think you know how the anonymous voting works. Caliburn makes a thread, the people wanting to enter say I wish to take part and then PM him the Name, art work and an image of the artwork just like in fill up the bubble. Don't see why we can't have the same in the Art section if they have it in other sections already.

How the voting would be done is completely irrelevant to the problems I pointed out. We would all ultimatively need to see the artwork and knowing members before hand would only make it easier to get who is who. Cheating won't receive an impact due to this, assuming there even is cheating as all the winners I saw so far deserved the win imo.

You missed the point. I didn't say everyone would have to make seperate drawings to share at the 2 occasions. I said that, in order for your suggestion to be of any use, they'd have to either keep the art for themselves until the contest is finished or make something new. The problem rises from the fact that many people simply submit that which they have already created.

I won't go into how, why or when one would choose to make art and neither should you. I myself would never make it just for the purpose of some contest but because I want to make it at the given moment. If I wished to participate in a contest I'd have to keep it to myself for some time, which is irritating.

But it matters because people would recognize the artist behind the said work and would thus render your suggestion meaningless. Assuming someone wants to cheat and have others vote for them just because it's them they would submit it to the Art Hall so people know it's them. The only way around this would be not allowing already shown works to participate, which again brings us to the point at hand.

Also the Art Hall isn't dead. I post both in the Fan Arts and the Art Tutorials sections.

Nothing stops the people to tell their friends his/her work. Unless only the staff members decides who win, it wont change a thing.
