As Raiga started out as a filler character then became a manga character, is it reasonable to take his backstory that was in the anime as being canon too?

His backstory wasn't in the manga so it isn't canon

Sure why not, I would have considered Sora's story to be Canon, if Kishi drew him >:U damn that butterhead.

This proves kishi gives the anime their filler characters that means they turn out canon drawn by kishi . So all filler characters are now canon . Good notice

Please crawl back to your filler hole.

OT. No, he took the appearance of the character. We don't even know if Raiga is his canons name.

Won't these filler vs cannon arguments ever end. They all started just because those Kaguya fillers were created smh. Raiga's backstory is filler but the character is cannon. It is the same with him that it is for Kaguya's backstory.

One of the 7 Swordsmen.

He took this small boy Ranmaru as his apprentice.

Thank you, my mind was foggy on what he looked like. Whose successor is he?

He didn't have a predecessor. Unlike Kisame who was the succesor of Fuguki Suikazan to inherit the Samehada after killing him. Raiga worked alone. I believe in the manga it had Might Dai facing the old 7 Swordsmen and then the Swordsmen split from there.

The guy had no teacher.

Kishi did in-fact take models from filler sagas. Not only Raiga, but he also took character models from the 3rd Shippuden movie. All the villain's sacrifices that he used to perfect his jutsu were models used by Kishi in the war. The scorch user, the explosion user and the chubby sensor type; all their models came from the Anime 3rd shipuden movie and were canonized. However in Raiga's case, as stated above, his name wasn't actually confirmed, its just assumed and the 3 sacrifices were never named in the 3rd movie so we can't confirm them either.

Despite all that, we cannot take filler as fact unless its canonized later. Those were special cases and had nothing to do with the true story, just side characters that honestly have no real role.
