Since Kimmimaro was stronger than VoTE 1 Sasuke

Gaara was the strongest of his generation, but he was nowhere near the strongest in Part 1. Jiraiya and Itachi both outclass him in every category.

Kimmimaro has kkg that allow his body to be invincible against major attack and also it can serve as weapon.... Gaara is weaker against Kimmimaro because he dont have ANY COUNTER to bone kkg in his jutsu arsenal.
But Naruto rasengan 1 tail can just stop his kkg to reform, frog boss can just slice him in two....
Sasuke cm2 chidori can also send chills to Kimmi body.....

HOWEVER Sasuke is not stronger than Gaara (at the time he fought with Kimmi). Because Gaara is the worst opponent and Sasuke is not gonna get away from funeral massive grave, his chidori may pierce a meter, but not ten/twenty meter.....
