No, as we've been shown, Zetsu is able to travel long distances using the ground and communicate with other Zetsu nearby. In the last image you showed us you can clearly see Zetsu attached to the tree which isn't far from the team at all. It wouldn't take a Byakugan to see that far.

Pretty much this. He can also record and "play back" his memories for others.
