I started reading Naruto when I was 10 and Itachi was (and is) among my favourite characters. I turned out perfectly fine (I hope...)
At 7, it was Dragonball and by 11 it was Death Note. I don't really think that matters too much.

Just because I like Itachi it doesn't mean I share his ideas of what is right and what is wrong. Same way with Light, Goku and several other violent characters.
