Sasuke novel? Did he go back home for a while?

So I read a summary about Sasuke's novel (the shin den) and in the epilogue summary (obv don't have time to read the whole thing), it says that Sasuke gets a letter from Naruto about Sakura, changes his journey and goes back to the leaf while Sakura greets him saying Welcome Home. So does that mean that he stayed in the leaf for long periods at a time? Which is why he mentioned that he has actually seen Sarada before.
