If you see my avatar you know it's pretty grainy atm. Yet the pic im uploading is actually high quality. Whats the deal?

generally its better to take large pictures and then crop and resize them for a good avatar
idk what size the picture you are using is but that may have something to do with it
also your picture blends in with the background of the site so its hard to see

Ive just decided on a different avatar, I like it better anyway.

If you let NB do the resizing, it'll turn out like shit.
