How often does Togashi release new chapters? I heard this manga suffers from frequent hiatuses because the magaka is sick, & doesn't want assistants. Which is perfectly fine but he doesn't have a set pattern for the release? Monthly? I know it's probably not weekly if he's ill atm.

It's weekly. It started airing again 3 or 4 weeks ago. Before that it was on a long hiatus because of "back problems" (Dragon Quest).

Well madhouse likes to stay canon & the manga is only 13 characters from when the anime stopped, so its safe to say it'll be quite some time. 1-2 years at the least if MadHouse wants to only push out canon.
