The funny thing is, what minamoto is saying is actually quite nuanced, and is actually how rivalries in other mangas have been portrayed. xD

See Rurouni Kenshin for example (note that the characters are not talking about the rivalry being settled by a fight, but are talking about how the rivalry would be settled if one of them died prematurely, before they even could settle it with a fight:
