[Suggestion] Comic Contest

Is there a chance that in the future we could have comic contests? The contests could be of any nature, just submitting short funny comics on the topic that is chosen.

I've seen this on other forums and it looked cool, so is there a chance we'll have something similar?

Well, AotM is judged on well... art. This would be an overall presentation of the topic given the selected month.

Not even close. FUB is just putting text into a done image - parodying it. This is making a short comic from scratch.

I don't see why this couldn't just be incorporated in FUB instead of making another contest with similar concepts.

FUB mainly stressed the idea to put into text. I think what OP wants is someone who draw from scratch not taking from any manga.

Exactly! It can feature characters from other mangas or even authors of other mangas but it must be made from scratch and stick to the topic at hand.

I think there's so much stuff to be explored here that I'm suprised why noone did this before.

It's a good idea. Rather than cropped and paste we can really see talented people art They can make this as their art practices too. For this to happen the time given for this contest should be longer. Since drawing from scratch will need more time.

Well itd be just short comics, 4-6 panels or how many you can fit on an A4 paper.

We could do this bi monthly do as far as Im concerned. As often as we gather interested participants.

I feel like people won't vote on the comedy but mostly on the art that people display (whose drawing is the best and not really the comic part). If this is actually drawing and not stick figures, art of the month could do something like this.

It can be anything. It doesnt fit AotM because comics are sequences of images telling a story rather than one image portraying something. Here thered be a topic unlike AotM where its always anything u want.

Art isnt the only thing that makes a comic. There are comics whose art is lame but their witginess makes them superior to a perfectly drawn comic thats not interesting to read.

Right now we are working on improving current official contests and their activity, plus your idea is also art-based which we already have the art contest making it debatable. The chances of it becoming official is quite slim.

Personally though I like the idea-I'd recommend you try asking one of the admins for a permission to have a trial in the contest section or just do as Mysterious said and ask Caliburn if it could be a temporary 'theme' for the art contest.

Doubt hes gonna allow a whole new medium. u.u

Digitally drawing is not the same as traditionally drawing with a pencil/pen. And it is so easy digitally coloring compared to actually coloring with pencils.

If this comic ideal is traditional art with pencil/pen it wouldn't be a problem.

No you can't make a contest trial or propose a contest in the base contest section without going through Zise/Lawliet first. Since you have premium you could ask zise to host it in the premium contest section.

If you are going to make a thread in art section and asking for entries and and then put up a poll for voting the best one, as in a contest, you may do that. Maybe throw in a premium for the winner from your own pocket. But without involving the mods/admins you cannot issue NB official awards or an other special prizes, can you? I don't think you are asking to run it in the as in first option.

I like your idea in theory. Apart from the whole contest section going though many changes and other administrative plans, another issue I see, at the moment, is not having enough people who will participate in such a contest on regular basis. Few people even post original art and fewer of them participate in contests.

There is no harm in asking Caliburn. Even if he says no at this time, he may still like the concept and if/when there are enough participants to organize something like that in future it can be held as an occasion contest at some point. As long as you don't start constantly bugging the admins asking for stuff and get pushy, they don't mind it.
