Maybe this new villain has a jutsu that traps one in some sort of purgatory dimension and naruto got trapped there.Sasuke used his Rinnegan abilities to go free him and entrusted boruto with the task of taking out the bad guy, giving the new gen a chance to shine.

yeah.personally I wouldn't be against Naruto/Sasuke Less boruto manga.they are more restrictions than anything else at this point
