Well for the Byakugan-ish (non-veiny/ no pupil) right eye, Boruto uses the 対立の印 (Tairitsu no In) with his left hand. Seemed like he needed to activate it, at least from my interpretation.

Hinata and Neji also did it that way to activate the veiny Byakugan, I think.

Right hand is occupied with sword at the time for Boruto.

Some of the pages of the Gaiden were colored (the first two). So the first few pages of the new manga are probably colored.
