I've seen a lot of live action tv shows lately on US television and they all suck ass have poor direction and terrible acting. Even Game of Thrones is terrible, overrated trash with a huge budget so it manages to at least have cool zombies.

Breaking Bad on the other hand, is completely different. The characters are well written and realistic, they are extremely well acted, the story is solid and clever touching upon moral issues and creating believable yet fantastic-enough-to-be-engaging conflicts. But tbh while it is well written and has great characters it doesn't really feel that real at the end of the day. I just can't get passed the fact these are actors on sets with fake blood and guns. Anime is different, the characters belong to their animated world it exists as an ambiguous thing completely seperated from reality which from my perspective makes the characters seem more real than they do in Breaking Bad. For example, in Evangelion when characters have ***, kill each other in cold blood, or are killed, it just feels like more of a real tragedy than when someone dies in Breaking Bad because I know it's just smoke and mirrors with real people pretending.

But aside from that, I think anime as a whole just trumps life action tv so far besides Breaking Bad, and yet there are scenes in anime that just go beyond what I've seen in breaking bad. Even in Naruto, scenes like when Orochimaru pins Anko's hands to the tree in the forest of death, it was just so intense and real especially with the music that I don't think anything I've seen in a movie or otherwise comes close to the feelings that evoked that made my hair stand on end.

Then anime like Monster capture the same realism as Breaking Bad, but does so in a much more artistic and poetic way, which imo makes it a more mature show.

Anime like Berserk while arguably juvenile in its over the top carnage manages to weave a story with deep characters and thought provoking tragedy on the level of Walt and the gang in only a fraction of Breaking Bad's run time. Though stuff like Berserk does lose points for not being relatable to the average American middle class adult, you can't exactly expect that from a forgein product.

Even still, while the characters in Breaking Bad are realistic, I wouldn't say they are the smartest most insightful humans. They are realistic but rarely do we ever really get into their heads to see how deep their psychologies really go. Evangelion psycho analyzes it's cast and shows how existential and intelligent their self reflection is it makes them feel even more relatable if you aren't some average American dad or mom. The dream sequences of Griffith in Berserk show how demented his obsessions are in such a dark and haunting way, you can really feel who he is you can put yourself in his shoes for that moment and understand why he chooses to be an ******* even if you disagree with it. But not on a yeah gotta be there for my family but now I just wanna get a rush out of being a badass drug dealer kingpin, more like I have these relationships I made but I've decided it's more important for me to shed me broken body and achieve the dream that was unjustly taken from me.

How you saw through his eyes when he was in his broken state and you felt his pain and suffering and existential torment was just another example of how anime is better than American television. Rarely in Breaking Bad do we reslly feel connected to the characters as if we're seeing through their eyes, only with Walter on occasion does it come close to that, but not really from any other character. I just think that it's ignorant to say anime isn't as good as "real stuff" as imo it's far more personal and psychological deep.

Personally i think its hard to compare the two. Anime/manga is a fantasy world. Breaking bad was set in a much more realistic world(though most tv requires some suspension of disbelief) because of this its difficult to compare the two as some of their merits are different.

Breaking bad has good character development. But so do many anime, just in a different wag because they are different kinds of characters. A show like breaking bad is more concerned with realistic characters than a series like one piece or naruto. Both have some relatable characters, something pretty important to keeping the interest of the audience.

In my opinion its comparing apples to oranges. Its like saying whats better, transformers or law and order. It isnt a good comparison really. But i will say that as much as i liked breaking bad there are anime i like equally as much. Both breaking bad and say, one piece do a good job at foreshadowing things, developing characters, and maintaining suspense in the series. Put simply i think there are anime that, as far as stories go, are equally as good as breaking bad, but not for all of the exact same reasons. Beyond basic story telling tenants they are liked for different reasons. Anyway im just rambling now....

They are both different. Anime can have a lot of fantasy that may not be viable to produce on real action TV. You can just have emotions displayed on an anime character's face by a command, whereas it is infinitely more difficult to enact. Actors in real life do deserve more credit thus. Similarly directors and producers have only so much so that they can do to make u believe it's real, whereas if you believe anime world is real, an anime can do much more. The real question is if you can buy into anime being an alternate universe or reality why can't you do the same for TV ? The answer is that you are biased. And frankly everyone knows that Krys likes anime girls and is a pedophile.

Who are you? The hell are you talking about. And anime lolis are great dammit. And idk I don't think it's that I'm biased, I just can't easily forget that it's actors. Breaking Bad is the only one I can really suspend that disbelief for as other shows the acting just doesn't convince me.

Personally I found death note a whole lot more enjoyable than the first three seasons of breaking bad. I didn't even go beyond that

What's in a name? :Sparks:
Anyways as I already explained, it's much easier to put an expression on the face of an anime character by just a few commands but it more difficult to enact it. And you ARE biased. You think anime girls are real ? With eyes that are bigger than noses. Boobs that are so big in proportion to the body that a normal human would prolly trip while walking if she had those.Do u see people like that everyday ? Then y do u believe it ? It is because you are a biased pedophile Krys.

So harsh on GoT and TV in general, There has been some straight trash animes too, Some far worse than Game of Thrones.

They both got solid shit, Id put stuff like Monster and Baccano! right there with Breaking Bad.

Death Note is Breaking Bad level for me. Might be better for me personally, but I think they are on the same level. Both top quality shows.

Breaking Bad and Death Note are really pretty similar. Plotwise, I was gonna say Breaking Bad was above Death Note, but really, I can't think of much that one show does that the other doesn't. Even if Skyler's a female character that gets more development than any female character in Death Note (Misa doesn't really change all that much, honestly), I think Death Note does a better job of developing more characters in the supporting cast.

It's also a weird comparison because Kira is a quality villain-protagonist being hunted by a bunch of quality hero-antagonists. In Breaking Bad, Walt is a quality anti-hero-protagonist confronting a bunch of quality villain-antagonists.

That said, I think Walt and Jesse's relationship exceeds the quality of any relationship depicted in Death Note.

And I mean, comparing anime to live action is tough, because cinematography matters too. In that respect I'm pretty sure there's no contest; Breaking Bad wrecks most, if not all, anime. Soundtrack wise I'd give it to Breaking Bad too (the songs are more meaningful than just sounding good or suiting the scene).
