Atheism/irreligion is prevalent and still on the rise in developed, modern nations, i.e; North America, Europe, etc...whereas Sub-developed or impoverished areas have been shown to be the opposite.

Are these coincidences? Discuss.

No, it's not a coincidence. As your country is more developed, people have less reason to rely on religion for social and emotional health.

However, atheism does not cause a country to become more developed.

The poor need more faith I guess. Also, they don't have access to education, so they don't really learn about atheism.

Yeah, and it's worth pointing out that relatively recent inventions like the Internet have allowed atheism to spread much more effectively than it could have in the past however-long of the main religions like Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism dominating the discourse. And obviously, Internet access is greater in developed countries.

Prevalent? Only 1 percent of North Americans(discounting mexico) consider themselves Atheists. Most consider themselves Christians(regardless of whether they practice it or not)

As for your theory on the relationship between development and growth of religion, Japan is a developed country like north American countries most of its people are religious. Another thing to note is if your idea is true developing countries should be having less religious people as time goes by not more seeing as how they are developing.

While I agree that people in the developed world have less reason to turn to religion due to better living standards and greater access to material possessions which are often better motivations for people than worshiping a deity or deities but it is not that simple. Development is not inversely proportional to the number of people who practice religion.

This is true. I was just preempting the OP's implication by showing that atheism can't receive any kind of causation just by statistics alone.

too busy with their lifes to spend a moment for praying or little thank you, then someone dies everyone starts talking about god

Agnosticism is a better option no one is 100% sure god doesn't exist.

The link is unsurprising. People who follow religion tend to reproduce at greater rates (not specifically because of the religion, but because of where they're located, because there are more of them to start with, and some other social trends).

Thank you, though.

Technically both Atheism (umbrella term for agnostic, unaffiliated, etc) and the religious are rising in number. It's just that the more religious live in developing nations and those are the ones experiencing population booms at a faster rate. If all nations were developed, it wouldn't necessarily mean more atheists, but there would be a correlation. (It being a cause and effect can be debated).

People can chose whatever they want to believe in, no one will know who's right until we die.
