Personally my list would look like:
1.Hashirama (of course)
2.Naruto
3.Sasuke
4.Gai
5.Madara
6.itachi
they would be followed by a bracket containing the likes of ohnoki, Ay, kakashi, jiraiya...
what do you think, who would be the top ninjas in such a NV

I agree but I think 8 gate gai is stronger than hashirama

Gai only above Hashi when he used 8 gates of death

Gai without going any Gates is not that strong if I put him beside Hashirama

Hashirama without going SM and full Arsenal still looking strong and also strong compare to Gai.

His base chakra alone can shake something where's Gai never seen to be doing so.

If he goes full power it can goes forever unlike Gai

Sasuke and Naruto with their rikoudo chakra are belpw Hashirama :th:? Pretty sure hashi isn't even close to half of the sage's power. Sasuke also beats him. Laguua still thrashes him. Ashura beats him for obvious reasons. Indra beats him. Hagoromo beats him. Hamura beats him. Toneri spanls him silly with tenseigan. All juubi jins beat him. Momoshiki and Kinshiki beat him. Kotoamatsukami makes him kill himself. The list goes on. Besides the only ninja that is top anything due to hashis power is no one. Even without hashi's power the only one who got a significant boost is Madara and Obito. Other than that the only ninja not stronger than hashi that only became stronget due to his power. Without his power is Madara.

If you forgot how Hashi kill Madara.... Gai can never beat Hashirama when even Madara who has the strongest sharingan version could not even able to detect the wood clone.
All i see is Gai beat Hashi wood clone then just die....

OP sure not thinking deeply when making this thread where he still left a room for people to dig in.

He just restricted the usage of Hashi's cell but not restricting Sage power-up.

For me it is much more stupid put Gai in the top tier. I have never seen anyone put Hiruzen or Minato with shiki fuujin, a suicide jutsu, in a top tier or high tier, but Gai yes, for whatever reason ( people say that the opponent dies before that Gai dies with 8 gates, so is a "victory" and he is the "strongest" , but this also happens with the shiki fuujin actually, but whatever).

Gai has no chance to open the 8 gates against top tier character and Gai never starts a battle with 8 gates... against JJ Madara he started with 7 gates and Lee saved him in time .-.

Anyway, i do not waste more of my time to discuss about Gai, since he's the "Donald Trump" of any Naruto forum, now.

hashirama's mokuton is strong enough to tank the strongest bijuu's bijuu bomb.are you saying the destructive power of gai's eighth gate exceeds that?
