They're not saying him being on a mission is bad, just the fact that he never bothered visiting Sarada or his wife after he left but opted to visit his best friend instead...

What was is that kept him away and prevented him from seeing them for that long? It just doesn't make sense...

Kishimoto wanted to tell his kids a message through Naruto/Sasuke. That even if he neglected them due to his duties as a mangaka, he still loved them. He was just trying to push that idea.

I wouldn't be too bothered by it as Kishimoto offered closure at the end of Gaiden anyway. A family portrait and Sarada is satisfied in the end with her dad.

Well, yes because he had to report to the Hokage- Naruto. They didn't make the mission publicly known because they didn't want to alarm people (an enemy more powerful than Kaguya could be out there?)

But, his wife was well-aware of the mission as she was there when he announced it & I don't see why they couldn't have told Sarada when she'd be old enough to understand (probably should have a few years before Gaiden took place). It's not like Sasuke was under a facade, he was doing something good- protecting the family and village by looking for threats.

Yes, he is very introverted and there's no problem with that. He doesn't need to get all romantic. Though, the point is the reason he didn't visit them was not very sufficient... at least imo. In fact, there was no reason given as to why he didn't visit, just why he was gone.

I don't think this is an innately negative outcome for Gai. For one thing, sacrificing your life to save your friends, while treated nobly in the manga, is also something that Naruto's endgame ideology seeks to avoid (one person shouldering the whole burden). Also, Gai being in a wheelchair isn't an innately bad thing (if Kishi was to give Gai screentime ever again), because showing that people with disabilities can be just as youthful or happy is a very positive outcome. In fact, this actually fits perfectly with the theme of Gai's character, being happy and believing in your own youth/strength even if other people don't acknowledge it.

It also leaves open the possibility of exploring how the ninja world treats disabled ninja. Not that I'm saying Kishi would ever touch those ideas, but I'm just saying I don't see Gai as "ruined" simply because he lived and lost the use of his legs.

Sasuke being away from his daughter and his wife for 10+ years isn't realistic at all. And it doesn't matter how many times Kishi tries to fix that, it will never make sense. I mean, dude has S/T abilities and is a demi-god walking on earth.

I did read both Sasuke and Sakura novels, and it doesn't matter how Kishi tries to fix it, it will never make sense. Nothing can justifiy a father being abscent from his daughter and wife for that long. He has the resources and could have visited them any time.

Soldiers do not have the option to come home whenever they want, and even if they had the option to return, they wouldn't have the resources to do such a thing.

Sasuke can do whatever he wants and he has S/T abilities, he could be in Konoha any time time if he wanted.
