They have Kaiten which was considered an absolute defence way before Susano'o. Kaiten basically repels anything object they can see, the clay bombs would be no different.

We're talking about the Byakugan in general not Hinata and Neji. Kishimoto nerfed them because the dojutsu's potential is easily on par with the Rinnegan as proven when Kaguya rendered Sasuke's dojutsu useless multiple times.

He could have given one of the Hyuga an increase in chakra reserves or chakra strength like he did with the MC and every Uchiha main character but he refused to do so and keep them at the same level they were in the chuunin exam.

Perfect Susano'o is out of the question. Ribcage, and other variants however, can be destroyed. Gentle Fist inserts chakra into the target causing the chakra to be distorted, and ultimately destroyed. Susano'o is nothing, but chakra. Gentle Fist isn't just for closing chakra pathways, as seen in Neji vs Kidomaru.

huh? didn't the chuunin exam say gaara's defense was superior to rotation, then in summit arc, it was stated that susanoo was superior to gaara's? sasuke>gaara>neji? (or maybe it was rotation that was better than gaara's def. can't remember)

also the whole stopping the chakra network thing is about as credible as naruto first attempt at using FRS against kakuzu. how successful is it for hyuuga's to not only successfully get in close range to something as power as the akatsuki but manage to CQC them to neg their chakra network successfully? you need massively effective taijutsu(gates) or ninjutsu to even be able to challenge them. neji could barely even handle the bodydouble clone that possessed just 30% of kisame's power.
