The way Sasuke says this, as if he could kill the tailed beasts if he wanted. Is it possible? Can the tailed beasts be killed? I was under the impression that they were just masses of Juubi's chakra that manifested into physical forms. They can only be sealed, right? Not killed.

They were made via In'youton from Juubi chakra. Tbh I think you could probably just rip them apart making them into mindless, formless chakra and then just seal it somewhere.

If you take away their mind and form then you have effectively killed the bijuu, leaving only the chakra

I only agree that the Bijuu contain too much chakra for Sasuke to absorb. Bijuu are only masses of chakra, and if each entity is made up of their own chakra then they're all just a more solid form of a chakra cloak, and Bijuu Chakra cloaks have been absorbed before. So it is possible to absorb Bijuu, just not "all" of the entire mass of a Bijuu, considering that the quantity is too large. And besides that, when chakra is absorbed it is broken down and converted into the users own chakra. I don't think Bijuu Chakra can be broke down like that so easily. Then again, Nagato did it.
