In the latest interview with Akira Toriyama and Toyotaro, they have discussed what Super Saiyan Blue would've been, Super Saiyan White and Toyotaro revealing that he is satisfied with the fact that a certain "future" related character will be appearing in Dragon Ball Super. :bouncy:

Good that they used the blue color instead. Looks way more cool if you ask me.
But in my opinion, they should've also get rid of the normal super-saiyan form for Goku and Vegeta. I hoped their "god-version" had overwritten the normal one with yellow/golden hair. But meh.

I think ssjblue is better as next upgrade after ssj(yellow), than white would be.

SSJ(yellow) has bluegreenish eyes, yellow hair and yellow aura glow.
SSJblue has bluegreenish eyes and hair and bluegreenish glow with a bit yellow and white in the center of the glow.
Saiyan beyond god base has white aura.

So color wise the transition makes more sense from normal ssj (yellow) to ssj blue than white would have done.

White could be a possible next upgrade (if another one happens) and would than make more sense at that time color wise as well.
