The first minor villains of the war have made their entrance! I’ve got it set up who I want them all to fight and why, so hopefully I can make those match-ups come off natural. lol Anyways, enjoy:)

Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:

Chapter 099: Blood and Knives

Advancing towards the island from the east, Deba and Daragetsu’s forces preceded their arrival with a downpour of hurled projectiles. The presence of the mist permitted multiple casualties on the Union’s side initially, at least until those on the shoreline grew wise to their presence and began taking cover whilst occasionally returning fire. With Deba at the head of the pack, however, every projectile thrown back was doomed to be deflected by one of his own, maintaining their large head count until the fog became too thick for even their forces to see through.

Daragetsu: Now get airborne.

Deba: I’m way ahead of you.

Grinning beneath his red mask, Deba yanked on two straps dangling from either side of his torso, exposing a pair of massive mechanical wings that quickly carried him over the fog, at which point he moved a pair of infrared goggles down over his eyes. With the mist weakening their vision, most of the Union shinobi failed to notice this, but as newly christened Sages, Airon and Manako were among the few that did.

Manako: (What the hell was…please tell me you saw that.)

Airon: (Yeah…move everyone back.)

Before either jōnin could make good on this notion, in the skies directly above them, Deba unveiled a plethora of scrolls tucked into the numerous straps and pockets that ran down his arms. With just a few quick hand seals, projectiles of all shapes and sizes began raining down from their folds, briefly overwhelming the forces below.

Niyo: Damn it! There’s too many of them!

Despite this declaration, Niyo proved one of the handful of normal shinobi or samurai capable of deflecting those weapons which came his way. Many of his fellow samurai could not say the same, however, as those who weren’t hit in vital locations such as the torso or neck – their helmets proved too versatile to endanger their heads – still found themselves with kunai or kama lodged in their arms or legs. The abundance of weapons yielded by Deba’s scrolls only continued to grow with the passing minutes, the task of saving his second-in-command eventually falling on Airon’s superior sword skills.

Airon: Niyo, fall back! I’ll provide cover!

Niyo: (He stared at him for a moment, briefly caught between the desire to thank him and his own pride.) …You heard the captain! Fall back NOW!!

Airon: Pull out your kunai along the way!!

The samurai scattering around them quickly followed their orders, running towards the opposite end of the beach with Niyo leading the way. All the while, Airon took it upon himself to deflect all projectiles that fell within their range, using the marked kunai in each of their hands to enhance the speed at which he could do so. This task would gradually grow too strenuous for even Airon, though, the scope of Deba’s range and the near simultaneous rate at which his weapons fell from above proving a test for his speed he’d rarely experienced before. So taxing was it that at one point, he was forced to defend one of his followers with his own body, as his hands found themselves unable to keep up.

????: Captain!!

Airon: (He winced in pain as he yanked the kunai from his shoulder.) Forget about it! Just keep running!!

Before the young samurai could even respond, Airon spun around and threw the kunai skyward, now coated in chakra. Seeing it coming, Deba successfully maneuvered to avoid it, but found himself unable to react in time when Airon suddenly appeared beside it, using his unsheathed sword to slice through one of his wings and send him plummeting back down to earth. Well above the maximum altitude at which he could survive such a fall, Deba resorted to the chute tucked beneath his now discarded wings, visibly irritated by having been brought to this point.

Deba: Rrrrgh, oh, look at him! Thinks he’s all tough taking on big bad Deba!!

Daragetsu: (He tapped the radio tucked in his ear as he watched his partner slowly make his descent.) Quit getting cocky, Deba! That’s the same kid who knocked Dageki into the wall, remember? …Just stick within your limits. I told you that already.

Deba: (He responded with great reluctance.) …Yeah, I remember.

His eyes grew wide in the following moment as he looked up, finding Airon advancing towards him rapidly as he skipped through the air in his own unique fashion. Deflecting every attempt to stop him that came his way, Airon brought his leg around and sent it crashing into Deba’s chest with enough strength to knock all the air from his lungs. To his dismay, though, his leg merely fazed through what was now a puff of smoke, a sight which brought him great irritation as he scanned the island for the real Deba.

Airon: (Real clever. Manako, I’m pinning that one on you!)

Manako: (Hey, I’ve got my own problems in case you hadn’t noticed!)

True enough, on the shoreline below, Daragetsu’s remaining forces collided with those leftover from the battle with Ichigo’s, and Manako took it upon himself to take on half a dozen of them at once. This proved a relatively simple task, but with their numbers greatly overshadowing the latter’s, those laying unconscious at his feet were quickly replaced by more. Watching the bloodshed from a short distance away, Daragetsu scanned the area for prey of his own until a vibration against his leg brought him out of his trance. Seeing this from the nearby tree line, Deba acquired to this through their radio transmission.

Deba: What is it?

Daragetsu: (He returned the phone to his leg pocket and slowly unsheathed the two blades on his back.) They’ve got reinforcements within fifty miles of here. Unagi wants this regiment wiped out before they arrive.

Deba: (A grin slowly formed beneath his mask.) …Well, that’s not TOO outside of our limits, is it?

Daragetsu: No it isn’t. …Bring on the rain.

Well ahead of him, Deba leapt atop the massive turtle-esque monument standing at the center of the island, pulling out a larger scroll than any he’d used before. Several hand signs later, he slammed them down in front of the open parchment and stood back and watched as hundreds of kunai fired out from its nonexistent confines. Tied to each were even more scrolls that unraveled during their ascent, sending thousands more projectiles falling to the island below. Those who hadn’t already been tipped off by the sight of the initial burst or the sudden retreat of their enemy found enlightenment in the dark cloud that slowly consumed the island. Even their strongest warriors found their faces filled with horror at the sight of the black mass falling towards them.

Mei: My God…

Rounin: EVERYONE CLEAR OUT!!!

In a fraction of a second, the entire division flew into a frenzy. The wisest and fastest took back to the waters, either diving beneath the surface or dashing beyond the massive range of the bombardment, but their numbers were few and far among the masses and with so few Earth users in the Fourth Division, little effective shelter could be conjured to protect those too slow or irrational to escape the island. What followed could only be described as genocide, the same level of genocide the two assassins had promised their leader when the fighting commenced. Those who could not find shelter were killed immediately by the hailstorm of sharp metal that blanketed the beaches, those foolish enough to hide beneath the tree line suffering the same fate. Among the few who survived the first and most concentrated wave of kunai were the Lee clan, whose renowned speed gave them an advantage in both evading them and deflecting those that came too close. The age of their titular patriarch by no means made him an exception to this expectation, though that didn’t prevent his son from being forced to carry him beneath the relative protection of a pile of downed trees, beneath which his grandson and at least half a dozen other shinobi.

Lee: Phew…thank you, son.

Metal Lee: (He smiled and held up his thumb.) Hm, do not let your age catch up to you, Father.

Chan: Miyuki, WATCH OUT!!!

Several yards away from their makeshift bunker, Miyuki sat crouched beneath a relatively thick tree and waited for an opportune moment to cross over and join them. A single tree was hardly enough defense against the endless torrent of kunai, though, but before the metal could find her flesh, a massive gap in the storm suddenly opened up, courtesy of the sudden teleportation of a huge bulk of the kunai. Knowing her savior’s name better than most, Miyuki heaved a sigh and said it aloud.

Miyuki: Airon…

Not long after she said it, a hand suddenly wrapped her arm and hoisted her up, attached to which was the arm of yet another one of the Leaf’s – far older – weapon specialists.

Miyuki: Miss Tenten!

Tenten: Just move, Miyuki!! They’re coming back down!!

Perhaps ignorant of just how right she was, Tenten gazed up a second later in horror as the next wave of kunai closed in around them. Out of time, she dove to her knees with Miyuki crammed beneath her, determined to make ensuring her safety her final act of duty on Earth.

Chan: MIYUKI!!!

Lee: TENTEN!!!

Tenten waited anxiously for the pain to spread across her body, clutching Miyuki tighter with every passing second. But it never came, and in a brief moment of confusion she looked up, her eyes widening in shock at the sight of the black flames of Susanoo blazing around her.

Miyuki and Chan: Manako!!

Manako: (He answered their recognition with a smile before looking down at Tenten.) Miss Tenten, what on earth are you doing out in such awful weather?

Tenten: (After overcoming her initial surprise, she replied with a smirk.) I’d expect a line like that from Airon.

Manako: (Well, I’m not gonna lie. He just fed that one to me. I was gonna say something about how disappointed our swords would be if something happened to you.)

Tenten: (She shook her head in mild amusement before standing back up.) I think I like his line better…but yes, I guess that is true.

With the kunai still falling heavily across the island, Manako took it upon himself to provide cover for Tenten and Miyuki until they were under Lee’s bunker, at which point he departed to help others in peril as Tenten found herself in the clutches of her son and grandson.

Metal: OH, MOTHER!!! YOU WERE SO CLOSE TO DEATH JUST NOW!!!

Chan: IF SOMETHING HORRIBLE HAD HAPPENED TO-

Tenten: Metal, Chan, relax. It’s okay. …I’m fine now.

When their descendants finally broke away, Lee wrapped his arm tightly around his wife. His eyes were shut, the lids trembling uncontrollably, but he remained composed everywhere else he could control it. Doubt and regret were fluttering through his mind, though, regret that he hadn’t gone out there to save her and his student himself. After forty years of marriage, she knew him too well to suspect otherwise.

Lee: It is a good thing Manako was close by.

Tenten: (Her suspicions confirmed, she smiled and set out to ease his mind.) Yeah…I don’t think anyone else could’ve possibly stepped in and saved us.

Lee: (He squeezed her tighter amidst his worry, but smiled nonetheless.) Thank you.

A few more minutes passed until the downpour finally ceased, roughly ten minutes after Rounin’s warning. When they stepped out from beneath the trees, what they saw was a scene straight out of their worst nightmares. Sandy beaches stained red by the countless bodies laid out across them, barely visible beneath the thick blanket of kunai. The trees occupying the inner island were no different, nor were their confines within which they were sure to find hundreds of Union shinobi who falsely believed the canopy would give them sufficient cover. For their son and students, such sights were new and without word, but for Lee and Tenten, this was only the second time they’d been exposed to such genocide.

Tenten: All these casualties…it’s almost like back then, only…worse.

Lee: (He clenched his fists.) We have to do our part in putting a stop to this.

From deep within the trees, a loud cackle slowly echoed its way across the island. Its proprietor was no doubt the same fiend who unleashed the hellfire to which they’d just been subjected. The very thought of him and his misplaced satisfaction made their blood boil, and Tenten reached down to pick up one of his discarded kunai as she answered her husband’s rally.

Tenten: Yeah…you’re right.

Deba’s onslaught ceased all movement on the island for a brief period of time, but by no means did it halt the battle entirely. Deba’s and Daragetsu’s mist still covered the area, and those who retreated to the waters made it their duty to tear through their enemy’s defenses and bring them down.

????: There, get him!!

Similar cries had been made multiple times, and as always Daragetsu made short work of the dozen or so dreamers who dared to attack him head-on.

Daragetsu: So typical. It’s like they don’t even know who they’re fighting.

His eyes lit up as a familiar sound found its way into his ear, only to be bisected at the shoulders moments later by a wave of chakra emitted from none other than the “twinsword” Hiramekarei.

Kagetsu: Most of ‘em prolly don’t…but we sure as shit do.

Kagetsu grinned with satisfaction as Suigetsu stood alongside him, the “seversword” Kubikiribōchō clutched between his fingers and his eyes squinted in anticipation. Sure enough, and to Kagetsu’s surprise, the blood pouring from Daragetsu’s nonexistent shoulders suddenly began taking shape, returning to its former coloring once his head and shoulders had been completely reconstructed. There was a sharp-toothed grin on his face as he turned to face his would-be killers, having waited all day for this particular duo to show themselves to him. He took a moment to savor the younger’s fearful expression before turning to the elder, the one he truly wanted to face in battle.

Daragetsu: Ah yeah, Mangetsu’s brother, right? I heard tales about his strength way back when. …Come to think of it, you never even mastered two of the great swords, did you?

Suigetsu: (He scowled at the mention of his unfulfilled goal.) I got more than enough time left to master the other six, you little punk. …Though I can’t say the same for you.

He lifted his signature blade, completely restored to its full length in the years since the previous war, and motioned for Kagetsu to do the same, at which point he grabbed ahold of the sword’s dual handles and pulled them apart. Unfazed in the slightest by this show of strength, their red-haired kinsman drew the twin katanas perched on his back. Silence followed as the battle ensued around them, then their eyes dilated in horror as blood began oozing from every crevice on his face and body, and he let out a wicked howl at their reactions.

Daragetsu: Well, if that’s how you wanna die…I guess I was getting kinda thirsty.

Suigetsu and Kagetsu face off against Daragetsu, the Bloodhound of the Mist!!!

The End

No, I think I've mentioned it before, but yeah, I actually focused on it a bit more here. And that's essentially an intimidation techniques or Daragetsu, and it works the same way Suigetsu works with water, hence him being the "Bloodhound" of the Mist. ;) lol

Appreciate the feedback, man*_*

Another great chapter. Nice to hear of Tenten, Lee and their family. The battle is really heating up, you've done a great job with the action. Looking forward to the next chapter and finding out more about Daragetsu's abilities. Please let me know when the next chapter is out, I almost missed this one.

I apologize for the extremely late reply! T_T

Thus far, Deba and Daragetsu have displayed very impressive skills! I thought Deba’s mechanical wings to be imaginative and AWESOME!!! ^^ Although, Airon also has provided superb skills of his own. The moment where Airon jokingly blamed Manako was amusing. So glad Manako came to Tenten and Miyuki’s aid =D I was shocked to read that Daragetsu had a regeneration ability or technique! It's been a long while so I can’t recall whether or not you’ve already mentioned that Kagetsu wields Hiramekarei and if not, then that’s pretty epic. The same thing goes for Suigetsu lol I love that these two stand united and that you decided to involve them in the fight, especially one such as this one! ^^ Daragetsu seems to display even more scary techniques and I cannot wait to read about it next chapter! =D

And as usual, phenomenal work bro! ;)

Yeah, these two are probably the least impressive of the minor villains I've conjured up, so I had to go all out to give them some sort of intimidation factor. xd

And yes, they're now both members of the Seven Swordsmen, so of course they'd be fighting together. And Daragetsu's from the same clan, so they just had to fight at some point. lol

Late, early, it's good either way, man*_*

Well let me tell you, for these two being the least impressive, I really liked what you did! ^^ Can’t wait to see what you do with the characters you feel are superior =D

Yeah, I thought you might’ve mentioned it before but I wasn’t completely sure and that’s EPIC!!! Of course they just had to pitted against each other XD It also just works :)

Thanks ^^
