What's odd is that it wasn't directly stated that the Senju or Uzumaki were clans with high chakra reserves? Just that the members associated with these clans do, right?

From my perspective, the Uzumaki for example, don't just focus on high reserves, but some clan members even have potent chakra capable of holding down the strongest Tailed Beast. Kushina told Naruto that she was chosen to hold down Kurama because of her special and strong chakra, and Yamato made the same reference to Naruto because his own chakra was strong enough to hold down Kurama.

Again this clan close to the Senju's. I don't think that either Uchiha or Senju specialize in potency or large reserves, it's just based on what the Shinobi has. Most Uchiha's we have seen have above average reserves, same goes for the Senju. That also goes for chakra potency.

If that was the case then Uzumaki would be an older clan than the Senju. But we don't know that.

Karin was out of chakra from healing Sasuke one time and it wasn't even life threatening injuries. Karin doesn't have large reserves. The manga even said Nagato could control his Rinnegan because he was Senju lineage. Naruto's chakra is high because he's Ashura's and besides that I never said he didn't have high reserves.

Like I said no known Uzumaki have large reserves Nagato is an exception but it's always been said that he's of Senju lineage.

I think reason is irrelavant here and everything is plot controlled as shown how nagato who has no problem controlling Two rinnegan struggled against 6 and 8 tailed naruto who only possess kurama's yang part and completely sucked of his life force when summoned mazo while obito who had problem controlling two rinnegan summoned and controlled mazo like nothing and not to mention he controlled six multiple jinchuuriki at a time with his sharingan even in their tailed beast forms.

The manga has never stated that all Senjus have large reserves. The Uzumaki do not have large reserves. They are known for their odd life force. The Uchiha on the other hand have been stated to have large reserves and potent chakra by the manga and the databook as well:

It's not really surprising, because it's Indra that inherited the Sage's strong chakra genes, not Ashura. Which is why Chakra is what goes to Uchiha and physical resilience to the Senju:

So, yes, Uchihas do have higher reserves than the Senju. Hashirama is simply an anomaly just Nagato in the Uzumaki clan. The people abused Izanagi in battle for crying out loud, when it's such a chakra taxing tech.
