phobia
noun [C] UK /ˈfəʊ.bi.ə/ US /ˈfoʊ.bi.ə/

› an extreme fear or dislike of a particular thing or situation, especially one that cannot be reasonably explained:
I've got a phobia about/of worms.

"Or dislike", so aversion is valid
The term homophobia follows the first definition as it combines with another word aka "homo" . If we go by that definition of just the word phopia then almost everything that anyone dislikes is caused by phobia which is extremely absurd.

Man all these people quoting the word phobia like it matters

Why don't you quote a reputable definition of homophobia and see how that works out for you

Nice Try.. What? It's still a homosexual act just without consent.

Yeah I think the fear of rape is more prevalent than the fear of the general atmosphere of possible homosexuality, they're not afraid of dudes looking at their butt or something

In the same way a girl being afraid of being raped by a dude isn't heterophobia

Your logic is self-serving and flawed

If you support laws that are designed to prevent the expression of homosexuality in places that aren't any of your business (i.e. anywhere that isn't your house) then you're a homophobe. Anything more extreme than this, such as supporting violence against homosexuals, also qualifies.

Now then:

If you say the word "gay" derisively, you're not a homophobe, you're just daft. If you call people British slang for a cigarette, you're a douche and either 12 or never graduated from the mentality of a twelve year old.

If you make faces when you see two people of the same *** kissing in public, you're kind of a prick. If you just get grossed out, you're just a bit old-fashioned.

If you think homosexuality is intrinsically hilarious, regardless of context, you're annoying.

If you're offended by being called a homophobe for acting like a douche, you're a sensitive babby.

I'm gay and I make gay jokes and make fun of my people. Who cares?!

Hm, yeah, I was only thinking about this in the context of heteros getting offended that people might be upset.

But if there's someone around you who's in the closet, they might be uncomfortable. Everyone can talk how they want to, but ultimately you acknowledge that you're doing it for your own benefit, not others.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter, in the sense that I don't really care about every possible permutation of right and wrong. I was just thinking of contexts where people might get called homophobes and feel that it was unfair, and was arguing that you can't be that upset about it if you're not considering other peoples' feelings in your speech either. I'm not language policing.

Besides, like I said, "homophobe" only really applies to a specific group of people.

I live in a predominantly Jewish town (not Jewish myself) and people make Jew jokes all the time, but that doesn't mean they can (or would) make those jokes everywhere without expecting some backlash. Depends on context. I had a friend named Sam who called himself "Sammy Wammy the Rainbow F****t" in high school (he was actually gay), and it was good laughs, but I wouldn't go around just talking like that for my own benefit, etc...

This was mainly aimed at people crying about PC and whatever.
