Do We Need Rules And religion To Be Good People?

Are we not capable of being good people with a sense of morality without religion or rules??

The fact that we need these things to be civil and decent is kinda sad.

Unless you feel we could get by without them?

The idea that religion emerges solely as a set of spiritual and moral obligations is silly

Both laws and religious tenets are there to resolve disputes as well; most religions even codified how things like marriage should operate

I.e. if something goes wrong, how do we conduct restitution

People can obviously do just fine without religion or even legal codes telling them what to do, but the law makes the whole process way more efficient and straightforward

Rules are made by people and religious absolute morality is basically non existent nowadays (people pick certain moral values and live by those while disregarding others).

Most people would behave the way it would benefit their "group" and ensures them a part in the said group regardless of rules or religion. It's evolutionary.

Yes but only because we are conscious. If we operated just on our more "scientific principles" so to speak like natural selection we'd just be doing what we were "meant do do"

But since we're not robots and we can think about how our actions affect others we can draw the line between good and evil. It's not just about theocratic law, we've always needed rules because co-habitating to the degree that we do requires keeping some of our "natural" impulses in check
