Kishi gave kunoichi such a bad name in this manga. After Mei who is mid kage, and Tsunade, Sakura, Temari, Konan, and Chiyo who are all low kage level, the drop in quality is large.

Katsuyu spits larger amounts of acid and because of her size she has a larger range. She was able to shoot acid across to Manda, shitting on any range Mei has with her acid.

It is much harder to knead chakra for a jutsu when you are low on chakra whereas leaping forward doesn't take as near as much chakra.

Katsuyu is irrelevant when Mei is going after Tsunade, not the slug. Katsuyu is even slower than Tsunade so what makes you think Katsuyu can intercept Mei's attacks or prevent Mei from engaging Tsunade?

But again Sasuke had his back to the attack and still moved out of the way + he was tired. No it was not aimed at Karin but she was exactly where the lava hit yet she moved out of the way, Sasuke most definitely could have. Sasuke was not looking to play with Mei, he wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible and find Danzo, he was not going to waste energy dodging when he could just put up the ribcage.

Tsunade can dash backwards or jump high backwards. She was able to to cross the distance that Mei's water dragon made to break open Madara's Susano which she hit milliseconds after Ay+Onoki.

Tsunade can cover impressive distances but she has to react first but this technique gave sharingan users some trouble so Tsunade gets drenched by lava before she reacts.

Tsunade can pretty much accomplish a lot of Mei's attacks with Katsuyu alone. Her liquid form can substitue for a suiton and drown out an opponent and she can also spit acid and has a larger range due to her size.

I consider Mei to be superior when it comes to 1 VS 1 or 1 VS multiple opponents. Tsunade is superior when she has a team. Tier lists usually talk about one's ability to fight on their own.

1. Mei has a much easier time tagging her opponents than Tsunade.
2. Opponents have a much harder time tagging Mei than they do Tsunade.

Explanation for 1: Mei has multiple ways of attacking her opponent and can utilise ninjutsu much faster than Tsunade can punch. Mei has a better range game and is much better at hindering her opponents ability to defend themselves.

Explanation for 2: Mei has superior defensive capability considering her water pillar can block attacks and same goes for a wall of lava. Acid mist and hidden mist serve to make it hard for the opponent to track Mei, let alone launch an effective attack against her. Also with Mei's superiority in keeping pressure up against opponents, they are less likely to go on the offensive and stick to the defensive.

Ultimately, Mei is actually harder to put down than Tsunade despite Tsunade's regenerative abilities because most kage levels have techniques that can take Tsunade down so what is more important is preventing oneself from getting hit in the first place.

Katsuyu absolutely puts Mei way below Tsunade as Mei will already have a hard time against Boss Summons but especially Katsuyu who has defense against acidic substances and shoots acid herself.

They already have manga intel on each other. Furthermore, when comparing who's stronger, you take a look at how they'll fight each other with full intel so that there are no surprise factors. Mei doesn't have horrible reserves, she has been fighting on the battlefield for much longer than Tsunade. She started guarding the Daimyo since the beginning of the war. Stop making biased scenarios where all Mei does is spam suiton without an effort to finish Tsunade off. What is Tsunade's counter to getting ripped apart by the fangs of a water dragon?

Mei nigh instantly used her water dragon on Madara who was an entire jinton cube apart in terms of distance. Katsuyu's size is nothing compared to Tsunade boosted jinton. If Mei rides her water dragon, she is too fast to be hit by Katsuyu and Tsunade can't land a hit on someone inside a water dragon. That water dragon hits Tsunade knocking her off Katsuyu then Mei unleashes lava at Tsunade. Katsuyu is ignored because Mei is fighting Tsunade, not Katsuyu. It takes time for Katsuyu to be summoned and then split. If worst comes to worst, Mei just sends Tsunade flying to a location far from Katsuyu and then takes Tsunade out without having to worry about Katsuyu interfering in their fight.

Why are you bringing up lava globs when I never brought them up to begin with? Karin wasn't in the target area, how many times am I going to have to show you this scan. Karin reacted only after the lava had already reached its target so in reality she didn't even react. Still no reason as to the lava being slow, just you making excuses. Sasuke putting up susanoo doesn't mean the lava is slow when susanoo can be put up instantly. Ribcage susanoo doesn't give him any type of offense to take Mei on so he'd have been better off without using susanoo to save chakra, better mobility, etc.

Because the lava globs are smaller so they should be shot faster and Sasuke side stepped with his back to Mei.

Mei's lava hits the whole wall behind Karin and Sasuke, it explodes covering the whole back wall. Karin was right next to Sasuke. You are wrong she is already falling forward as Sasuke gets dosed with lava, they are happening simultaneously so she had to already been moving as the justu hit.

Orochimaru comes down high speed towards Naruto with his blade in his mouth, now looking from the tip of the blade he is very close to Tsunade who is able to react and from a sitting position jump over Naruto and take the blade.

Now look how close Orochimaru is to Naruto, Tsunade from a relaxed flat on her back poistion is able to flip over and cover Naruto. Then in the same scan after Orochimaru kicks her over Naruto she is able to punch him in the face while Orochimaru is looking straight at her. (She did this with all the cuts Orochimaru gave her)

Karin comments on Ay's speed after she sees it. Difference with Mei, she comments as Mei shoots the justu, meaning she has already mentally reacted to it.

Mei has shown she can control her water dragon however she sees fit. Read my thread if you want proof. Making sharp fangs should be effortless for Mei. It isn't just water considering Tobirama can use water to slice thick branches of the god tree and Kisame GSB can shred his target to pieces.

She can summon Katsuyu in the air as I stated, jumping heights Mei would need suitons to reach.

Not when Tsunade needs to put blood on her hand which gets washed off if Mei uses water pillar on Tsunade.

How is Mei inside her water dragon? If she has to hold her breathe that is only going to affect her battle focus.

Mei's lava hits the whole wall behind Karin and Sasuke, it explodes covering the whole back wall. Karin was right next to Sasuke. You are wrong she is already falling forward as Sasuke gets dosed with lava, they are happening simultaneously so she had to already been moving as the justu hit.

The lava apparition technique is far faster by feats, has greater range and has a much longer duration. A large amount of lava coming from Mei's mouth will have to flow faster out of the mouth than a small amount of lava from the same cross sectional area within Mei's mouth.

Orochimaru comes down high speed towards Naruto with his blade in his mouth, now looking from the tip of the blade he is very close to Tsunade who is able to react and from a sitting position jump over Naruto and take the blade.

Now look how close Orochimaru is to Naruto, Tsunade from a relaxed flat on her back poistion is able to flip over and cover Naruto. Then in the same scan after Orochimaru kicks her over Naruto she is able to punch him in the face while Orochimaru is looking straight at her. (She did this with all the cuts Orochimaru gave her)

Karin comments on Ay's speed after she sees it. Difference with Mei, she comments as Mei shoots the justu, meaning she has already mentally reacted to it.

Too bad Mei can track Tsunade's speed easily and adjust her aim by moving her mouth even if Mei reacts. Not to mention reacting a sick and armless Oro who was at a much further distance from Naruto compared to Tsunade is not a great feat. Mei's lava is faster than Sasuke who is faster than Oro so I don't see this as proof that Tsunade can dodge lava.

Mei had already covered the wall with lava which was further than Karin or Sasuke before Karin mentally reacted to it so the two situations are identical.

However shockwave is just the after effect from Tsunade's attack while Mei has to do a justu to replicate it.

A jutsu much more unpredictable than punching the ground and much faster to execute unless you think hitting the ground is faster than casting a hand seal.

Again Tsunade using Katsuyu can replicate a lot of Mei's justus. So I dont see how Mei is overall stronger.

Katsuyu is so high up that its acid is too high to actually hit shinobi on ground level. Mei's suiton water dragon is still much better than anything in Tsunade or Katsuyu's arsenal when it comes to being able to hit her opponent.

True she will get tagged in combat more because she fights in CQC but she easily handles being tagged.

How does Tsunade not have a better defense? Mei's defenses take time and waste her chakra.

Tsunade can't handle getting tagged by slicing attacks or attacks that can obliterate her body. Most kage level shinobi have these types of attacks. Mei's jutsu happen very fast whereas Tsunade's take time other than regeneration which isn't a defence.

This however doesn't mean it won't be effective at all because even the defusing mist is potent enough to cause harm or else Mei wouldn't have expressed alarm that it was leaking out where her allies were. Also do bare in mind Mei only used a small amount of mist and didn't bother casting more of it after her initial usage. All in all, its corrosiveness will still be a threat in an outdoor location especially when the opponent will be inhaling it.

The hidden mist jutsu and the acid mist are virtually identical and are cast in the same manner.

Every single time the hidden or acid mist were used, they engulfed the entire battlefield nigh instantly so the opponent will be under its effects nigh instantly even in an open location.

In an open location, it won't be potent enough to turn her opponents into a puddle but corrosive burns should still occur and the pain will be felt on the entire surface of the body as the entirety of the body will be exposed to it. This gives Mei enough time to take out her opponents without them being able to counter due to being under sheer pain from the acidity of the acid mist. One can argue and say that a simple katon or fuuton could evaporate or blow away the mist but doing so will require the caster to inhale, then exhale out their jutsu. Doing this will cause them to inhale a large amount of corrosive mist thus preventing them from properly spitting out their jutsu and succumbing to the mist even quicker than before similar to how Mei succumbed to Madara's pollen as she tried using a suiton (

If Mei wanted Karin dead, all she'd have to do is adjust her aim towards Karin by turning her head and Karin would be reduced to a puddle.

This technique can be used as a defence as well to melt/burn away incoming attacks. On the other hand, this disadvantage doesn't hold for Mei considering she is immune to its effects so she can carelessly step on lava.

. This is pretty OP considering how a sudden eruption of a massive amount of water from underground is unpredictable unless you can see/sense what is happening below the ground. Mei could utilise this and launch her victims up, where they won't be able to evade a follow up attack. Not to mention they'll be taken aback and startled by all that water gushing up from below their feet, rendering them unable to make the next move.

Also it is important to note that Mei can bend that waterpillar to curve it however she sees fit. This means Mei has control over the water erupting from the ground and can instead opt to make a spiky water pillar come out of the ground, maiming her opponent or make a water pillar which is thicker but has a less width in order to protect Mei from narrow focussed attacks as opposed to widespread attacks such as Madara's katon.

. Regardless, the katon couldn't travel that small distance between itself and Tsunade in the period of time the water pillar was shot up into the sky. This goes to show how fast the water erupts from the ground.

In summary, this technique is extremely hard to evade for three reasons:

2. Not much distance from the ground to oneself
3. Massive AoE
4. The speed at which the water erupts

Despite her casting water dragon after two other jutsus were cast all after Madara's susanoo had been sent flying, the water dragon immediately caught up with Madara and ate his susanoo. This demonstrates both the speed with which the water dragon travels and the speed at which Mei can cast jutsus. Also her water dragon has an immense range considering the fact that it traversed the distance spanned by the giant jinton cube in order to reach Madara who was on the other side of the jinton cube (

). The box in red shows Madara barely dodging the giant jinton cube. The box in green shows that the jinton partially opens up. Right afterwards, the blue box shows the water dragon passing right through and catching Madara by surprise. This is an amazing speed feat for the water dragon because it could only travel through the jinton cube after it was opened up and it was just one panel later that the water dragon reached Madara.

All in all, depending on the situation, Mei can manipulate the water dragon in different ways. She could literally create fangs to chew her opponent to smithereens if she sees fit.

Furthermore, Mei managed to stop the water dragon's momentum after capturing Madara which hints that she can control its movements.
