People are afraid of the consequences.

I doubt it could be any worse than living a pointless slave life, that ends in sickness that could have been easily avoided.

Keys to moderate success

Graduate high school

get a job

don't get pregnant before you get married

Wealth redistribution isn't what gets people out of poverty, Pure capitalism is.

While it's not impossible to get out of poverty, that requires a supporting family who can help you get through high school (I know many who had to quit school to work), getting a job is obvious (however, the job you work is irrelevant if it pays well below the required pay for you to survive, even with overtime), and not everyone who is in poverty has been pregnant.

The situation is complex, and those who have above average IQ, wealthy families with connections (and middle class is wealthy these days), personalities that make them worker drones, or attractive personalities and appearance, have the upper hand when it comes to landing any job. The few jobs that are out there for a starter wage, are really low paying, and provide no health assistance, you have to work too many hours for any chance at college, and paying rent, and having a car is almost out of the question. Unless you rent a hovel, and drive a car that requires $2000 worth of credit debt every year just to keep running.

As someone who worked his way out of poverty, and did EVERYTHING for himself from the age of 16 years old, I am doing well compared to people who came from the same/better situation as myself. I have a meticulous mind, and it has greatly worked in my favor in my life. Not everyone is the same, and I know people who tried just as hard as me, who are living on couches and selling drugs because they had no other options if they wanted to live.

I don't disagree. i only pointed out three keys to moderate success. I never said they were easy for everyone to achieve.
