This was just something that popped into my mind and I wanted to bring it up as a discussion. What do you hate most about the Shonen Genre, including the Main Characters aka the Main Protagonists? What are your main gripes about it? Discuss......

I wonder if your whole life is about your obsession with FT. Why read shounen if you know that this is common and will always be used, even if you know you're going to hate it?


Btw, you should stop watching most of the stuff out there. Friendship is even worse and way more annoying in everything that's made in Hollywood.

Everything. Just everything. 99.9% of anime and manga are just bad.

Transformations and singular overpowered charcters are the root of all shonen's problems

Transformations = leaving the roots of what made the manga interesting in the first place (limitations on people's abilities, being more human)

Singular, overpowered characters = divert attention from the rest of the cast, cause mass underdevelopment of everyone

And then women getting the short end of the stick all the time ever

Mainly how the protagonists are just too similar, with a few exceptions like Light Yagami (he was just awesome lol). But mainly because the focus is only on one protagonist becoming the strongest of them all and leaving little to no room for any other character development.

Almost every rival in Shonen have the same dark "he's so cool and naturally talented" demenor that the hero has to overcome (they mostly look the same as well: black hair dark eyes slender rugged good looks, etc)

These are just minor gripes though and more of the Shonen formula for making money with minimal originality than anything else. I suppose the devil is in the details.

1. In general, characters fall into overused cliches. Characters in Shounen tend to be very flat, with limited development.

2. Female characters are usually objectified or under-written.

3. The plots are usually full of cliches (training arc, fight, power-up, final move, etc).

4. The messages are generally pretty bland / juvenile. Friendship winning, perseverance in the face of impossible odds, underdogs overcoming elites... it's all right out of cheap action cinema, and it's not all that interesting.

Most of them are just about friendship/comrades and stuff... MCs sometimes get strange and ridiculous development because the situation demands it, very few times they fell short of the level in certain scenarios where technically they should have no hope at all...

Dying is like a taboo, even the villains are beaten sense into them so they move to good side. And real evil guys are forgotten after their beating either to return again to get wrecked again or they just retire from their career...

Fan-service is the worst thing I encountered in anime, there are some shows that are specifically made for it... But those which have serious and interesting content just get destroyed by fan-service...

I like FT and dont see much of a problem with their characters theme development.

FT friendship power is more powerful, believable and properly developed compare to Naruto or Bleach. I felt very close to it.

For me, it's fan service.. I don't know why but I dislike fan service.. I also hate the girls who act like they are the bosses and like they can do everything.

And of course, overpowered main characters.. Especially The Irregular at Magic High School.

Gon is underwhelming to say the least. The cast around him is what makes HxH. Gon is average at best.
