When it comes to something being cannon in the Naruto-Verse, does it really matter? I know fans in Japan don't care for if something is cannon or not, but the U.S cares about it a lot. So does it really matter? Please post your thoughts on if it really matters if something is cannon or not when it comes to Naruto.4

Canon = the only line which separates fanwank from logical debates being actually possible

Outside of debates, people believing whatever they want is fine. It's freaking fiction.

Well I think it doesn't matter as long as you are liking it.

In fiction, canon is the material accepted as officially part of the story in an individual universe of that story. It is often contrasted with, or used as the basis for, works of fan fiction.
If it's not in the Naruto Manga it's not canon. Common sense can be used though. But assuming that characters can do outrageous abilities and combos is not accepted unless it's shown or heavily implied in the manga.

Canon matters to all stories. That's why noncanon episodes are called filler episodes.

Going against that is the same as wearing a tinfoil hat with a dildo painted with your favorite character on it ready for use.

I care about things being canon, yes. Not just with this manga, but with everything - books, movies, video games, etc. I don't usually bother with things that are non-canon because I know that the canon material won't acknowledge the non-canon - so I don't feel the need to become invested in side stories that will have no relevance.

For example, anyone remember the canon episode of Naruto about the group of moms? Granted that example is on the far end of the spectrum in terms of good-bad non-canon material, but my point remains.

Edit: I meant "non-canon" episode in regards to the mom thing.

I see exactly what you mean and that does change my opinion slightly. I guess for me, something being cannon or not matters to an extent, such as pointless fillers.

What are you asking specifically? Canon is something that doesn't affect the main storyline. It's pretty simple and universally accepted.

Personally idc unless it directly contradicts the main story.

Everything is fine until it doesn't go beyond logic and pointless.

That episode was filler about the group of moms...

An example: Shisui's Susanoo.
Shisui's Susanoo is a good example to better illustrate my point actually. A lot of people love the fact he has a Susanoo design in the Naruto games (and maybe it was brought into the filler episodes, I wouldn't know about that since I don't watch them), but for me I don't care one way or the other about his Susanoo. Looks cool, yes. Canon, no. I don't bother to get attached to it because I know at the end of the day, in the canon storyline any knowledge of said Susanoo becomes irrelevant as it will never be acknowledged by the canon.

That episode was filler about the group of moms...
That was a typo on my end, I know it was filler and I have corrected my post. But thank you for pointing it out :)

It doesn't really matter to me, I just wish they would write better filler and make use of the many characters that get so little panel time in the manga.
