It's just that design. That's literally all there is separating these two polar opposite yet exactly identical characters.
And yeah, it's a cool design. It's probably in my Top 3 (Hanzo, Kabuto & RSM Naruto) but when you think about it, that's not a lot of reason to prefer one protagonist to the other. Makes you think huh.
THEY'RE THE SAME CHARACTER
Equal amount of panel time, similarly dealt out power-ups, equal amount of events/development happening around them rather than to them, both physical brawlers/tool users who become DBZ chakra avatar giants near the end (just different colours) similar origin stories, both surprisingly bland and are the products of people more interested and experienced than them, both struggle with fatherhood and undergo a rather mature late-game personality twist in late age.
One wants to connect everybody whilst the other sought to disconnect the current world, choosing loneliness. They're the same character with different designs and different colours headed in different directions of the same line.
They're made to appeal to the two cliches of anime fans. The demographic of 13-18 year old fans are more drawn to the moral grey Vegeta / Shadow the Hedgehog / Zuko type simply because they are 'darker' and appeal more to that edgy fanbase.
And that's fine, you do you. Just don't act like they're completely different characters, drop your petty religious hatred towards a fictional character and realise that the bright-coloured, smiling protagonist archetype whilst simple, is equally as deep and complex as the dark anti-hero type. Don't oversimplify things just bc they're not your preference yo.
Anyway, happy Easter- let's all get along a bit and argue over stuff that actually matters maybe.
