How would you guys feel if a new Robin was introduced and he was a black kid? Not a reinventing of Tim or Dic.k or Jason or Damien but a completely new character?

If you've been keeping up with the comic this is about to happen and personally I think the character is awesome. Duke's been a great addition since he popped up in the Zero Year arc but I know a lot will hear the words "black Robin" and freak out not bothering to see how it came about or anything. Just curious if anyone's been staying current with the story and how they felt about it. How about Duke as a character?

You can catch up on him in the New 52 Batman starting around 0 year iirc and in the title We Are Robin

Damien will be the best batman black robin will suck I want damien back
Duke's actually pretty awesome so far. Damien is the shit but Duke's not gonna suck(as long as good writers keep using him, Snyder made him a pretty good character and team member. Super smart, brave(one of the only ones that was planning on challenging Riddler in 0 Year, getting stronger and combat(trained by Damien,Jason and D.ick) If he were a shit character or a race change I may agree that it won't work but Duke's gonna get his props once people give him a read I hope.

I think it'd be 100% fine and is a good idea. Robin is a legacy character. Anybody can be Robin. In fact, Robin is a great entry character. D. Grayson becomes Nightwing, Todd becomes Red Hood, Stephanie becomes Spoiler, etc...They become their own.

I completely agree.

feels forced
A 50 month forcing? Sounds legit. Nah I'm just teasing, the way it was carried out is anything but forced. Duke is just the next Robin candidate and the series explains why it's him pretty well.

Bring it on I say. It will be good to see a new Robin and his backstory...which we all know will most likely be tragic in someway, seems to be the Robin M.O.
They've given his backstory(I'm sure more will come about as he's fleshed out more though) he has a tie of sorts to Joker. That's all I'll say, hopefully you're interested enough to check out the issues.

I sure am. Even more so if the Joker is tied into his backstory...Best Villain EVER! XD thanks for the heads up.

Oh, lol. Well, I didn't really follow the We are Robin and Robin War stories so idk about his story. I know a bit from Batman Eternal but nothing special.

Technically, he's already a Robin though. xD
What? I haven't read Batman Eternal that must be set after the events of Batman 50 or are you counting the We Are Robin mob of Robins when you say he's a robin? Because at the end of 50 Bruce says "I have an offer for you" and then that's where it's left til 51 but come on with everything that's happened and all Duke knows, he's gonna be Robin. A lot of his story is given in the Batman title starting around issue 24 or so. He meets all the prerequisites
smart, tough, brave, has combat training from all 4 previous Robins, "lost" his parents, has a history to three villains in Batman's rogues gallery(Riddler, Joker and Bloom)

Can you point me in their general direction?
The first I saw him was in Scott Snyder's Batman(New 52) around issue 24 or so in the arc called Zero Year, then he pops up again in the Batman(N52) arc End Game looking for his parents(this is his connection with Joker) then he's a main part of We Are Robin until around issue 8 and he's come back in Batman for the most recent arc Super Heavy and played a bit of a role in stopping it and showcased his detective skills. I haven't read it but I heard he make an appearance in Future's End(which I believe was a stand alone mini) and talks with Damian which implies he becomes a regular. His full name is Duke Thomas if you need it to help find any other appearances I'm missing.
